Hi, I am looking for a new monitor. The monitor I have right now is the Asus Asus VX228H. The specifications of this monitor says that it has a 75Hz refresh rate, but in reality it only reaches that refresh rate on the lower resolutions and not on 1920x1080. Really disappointing.

So now I am looking for a new monitor, with the minimum refresh rate of 75Hz, one that actually reaches the 75Hz on the highest resolution, instead of only reaching it only on the lower resolutions, so v-sync will be smooth and running on a solid 75fps: not allowing to drop under 60 fps easily, as it does now (especially) in Battlefield 1.

But the question is, should I buy a cheaper 75Hz monitor, with the solid 75fps with v-sync enabled, or should I spend more money to get a 144Hz monitor? What are your suggestions?

I also have a question about the following: there is an ultrawide monitor with 75Hz refresh rate but it has only a 5ms response time. Is that a disadvantage? Or will there be no difference between 1ms and 5ms response time on 75Hz-fps gaming?

Here is my PC so you can judge what the best monitor option will be:
Intel i5 4460.
EVGA Geforce GTX 1070 FTW
16GB Ram.
Z97S SLI Krait Edition.
1000 GB HDD.
250 EVO Samsung SSD.
Seasonic M12II Evo 620W.

Solution
Can't order those from Netherlands, need to ship them from Asia. I heard they could have quite some backlight bleed and dead pixels, not sure though.

Get the 24'' AOC 75Hz man. If you don't like it you just return it :).

Okay thank you. But what you said about your experience with 144Hz monitors I'm thinking I will buy a 75Hz monitor. The main reason is just that I want a smoother refresh rate than I have right now. I think I will buy a 75Hz monitor. I've searched for some IPS monitors with 75Hz, but I need to know if they also reach 75Hz at the highest resolution (1080p). I need to know that for sure, because the specs of my current monitor says that it also has 75Hz, but thats only on the lower resolutions, so the manufacturer kinda 'lied' about that.

I will send post some links, maybe you know if they will reach 75Hz at the highest resolution?

Sure, remember, the LG 24MP68VQ-P I have does run at 75Hz. I used it for a bit with a GTX 970 4GB, althought it didn't always feel 100% smooth, oddly enough, but that was when I switched from 144Hz to 75Hz. I bought it 3 months ago and I'm happy with it. It costs 160 euros.

What about overclocking your current monitor by the way, tried it?

I'm still looking for some IPS monitors with 75Hz. I will send you the links asap. About the overclocking, I did not even know that was a thing till now haha.

BTW, have you tried gaming on a lower resolution at 75Hz, does that make it smoother? I am pretty satisfied when I just stay above 60Hz. 60fps - v-sync is what I find smooth enough. But I am not used to other refresh rates atm. I've never seen and used a 144Hz monitor before so.. (;

Thank you for pointing that out!

The VQ-P variant has the better refresh rate? Or what is better about it? On tweakers its only listed as the VQ..

So on my list:

IPS monitor: LG 24MP68VQ-P (not the VQ but the VQ-P as you recommended)

TN monitor: AOC G2460VQ6.

I like the AOC one the most for now. Just because it's more a 'gaming' monitor. I think I only need to choose between these two.
But I really need to be sure that both monitors run 75Hz at 1920x1080.

No I haven't but most of them are not available in the Netherlands. I am doubting between the LG 24MP68VQ-P and the AOC G2460VQ6 (the 21.5 inch).

AOC G2460VQ6, I want the 21.5 inch one because it's the same size as my current monitor. I think it's the same one as the AOC G2460VQ6 24 inch. The only thing I don't know is if the 21.5 one also has the 75Hz refresh rate at 1920x1080. Do you know if he also has 75Hz at 1920x1080?

I think I will just do that! But do you know if the 21.5 inch is less in performance?

Okay, than I will probably go for that one. But I don't know for sure if it also has the 75Hz refresh rate on 1080p. And the contrast ration is 20:000.000 instead of 80.000.000 with the 24inch one.. Wil that make a difference?

Well thank you so much for your help mate! I will probably go for the AOC 21.5 inch monitor, unless I find another one somehow xd.

Thank you!
