I'm on the hunt for a new gaming monitor to complement my Nvidia 3080 graphics card. While I'm drawn to the allure of an OLED monitor, the price tag is quite steep. Since my setup is primarily situated in a dimly lit room, finding a monitor optimized for dark environments is crucial. Currently, I'm looking at monitors in the $300 to $600 range. Deciding between 1440P and 4K resolution is a bit tricky, but I lean towards 1440P for a smooth gaming experience without compromising too much on performance. High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology is also a priority for me. Any recommendations on monitors that fit these criteria?

I was able to pick up LGs older OLED for $600 a few weeks back. $656 right now. So far so good. Though I have been meaning to pick up a font type mod that will render text better. MacType for Windows apparently takes care of most of it. A solution made for some of Apple's OLED macbooks. RWBG rather than RGB and that makes text look weird.

Next step down would be the 240hz IPS version at $400

Though I believe the Gigabyte often gets a better review at this price point:

The slightly newer LG 240hz OLED is also on sale right now, normally $900, regularly $800, but $729 right now

I am probably a little bit behind the tech available but IMO a good starting point would be to look at the official G-Sync compatible list and choose from there. I picked up an AOC 1440 monitor a couple of years ago that is official G sync and also aligns with Freesync Premium, which was a bonus as I wasn't really considering AMD compatibility at the time. It made a world of difference in the performance for my then 1080 and onto a 3070 that I wanted but couldn't get hands on for a couple of years. Now it works great for my 7800XT.

Pretty much all the new models with HDMI 2.1 are G-Sync Compatible over HDMI and not just Display Port any longer. And I believe all RTX 30 series and up are capable of G-Sync over HDMI now. Not sure about the 20 series.

I believe that is also true of anything with FreeSync Premium, it is basically part of the standard. Older FreeSync monitors are more hit and miss.
