Question New monitor gets no image from PC with a HDMI connection.

I just bought a Samsung LS24S650 monitor. It only came with a HDMi cable so I connected that to my PC but I do not get an image from it. I've tried restarting the PC and downloading new drivers but it still doesn't work. My motherboard is an Asus Z87-C and has an HDMI 1.4 port. I don't see any reason why the port shouldn't work.
My previous monitor was connected to the PC with a DVI cable and that worked fine. Maybe I could try buying a DVi to HDMi cable, plug the DVi part into the PC and the HDMi part in the monitor. What about a DVI to HDMi converter would that be the same thing?

The HDMi cable from the monitor connects to the motherboard.

I tested out the monitor on my mothers laptop and it worked fine so it's not a cable or monitor problem. It seems the HDMI port of my PC doesn't seem to work.

You're right it does have an HDMi port and it works, stupid that I didn't see it, I already bought a DVI->HDMi converter. I guess that's wasted money. thanks
