I'm going to purchase a new motherboard soon and I need to install Windows on it. I had an OEM copy of Windows 7 on my PC until I upgraded to Windows 8 a few years ago. I downloaded the Windows 7 ISO from Digital River and put it on a DVD but now I have a question. Will I be able to boot my PC with a new mobo using the Windows 7 ISO and not activate it? I will upgrade to Windows 8 using the key emailed to me with the upgrade purchase but will I need to activate Windows 7 before upgrading? If so, this will not work because I have an OEM copy of Windows 7.

This may be confusing and I hope this is enough information.

Thanks!

Thanks!

if you have to register windows 7 just use the online help and tell the microsoft tech the mb failed and was replace with this one. they will register the oem copy to the new mb for you.
