My WD BLACK SN850X 4TB NVMe SSD is detected in both the BIOS and Device Manager, but not in Disk Management. It also does not show up in Storage Spaces.

Here are my specs:
  • CPU - Intel i9-13900K
  • MOBO - MSI Z790I Edge Wifi
  • SSD - Sabrent Rocket Q4 2TB (in slot "M2_1")
  • RAM - Corsair Dominator Platinum 2x32GB 6000MT/s
  • GPU - EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 (10G)
Notes:
  • The drive is listed as "Compatible" according to the table on MSI's website for this motherboard
  • In Device Manager, it is shown in "Other" devices
  • The drive is installed in slot "M2_3", setting was "Auto", forced to "Gen4". Does not work in either mode
  • There was previously a different NVMe installed in this same slot that I had no problems with. A Samsung 980 Pro 2TB.
I realize there are already 3 or 4 other posts similar to mine, but no resolutions.

I did not. I simply installed the 2TB drive and it showed up in Disk Management after booting. I didn’t have to make any BIOS adjustments or anything of the sort.

Check Control Panel -> System and Security -> Storage Spaces and if it is there follow the advice here. It does seem like a few people have somehow got a drive into a storage space without knowing how.

If it's not there then chances are it's a faulty drive. It IDs itself to the motherboard but doesn't function properly. You've not said but I guess this is a new drive that you've never had work before?

@Moonstick2 Yes this is a brand new, unformatted drive. I initially placed it in M2_3 (Gen4), but since tried it in M2_2 (Gen3), that's a no-go as well. It does not appear in storage spaces. If you notice in the screenshot I posted, you can clearly see the drive in Device Manager, however it's listed under "Other devices" with a blue question mark. While it may or may not be related, I also notice none of my USB drives seem to work anymore either, as if there's something wrong with automount, but according to diskpart, automount is enabled. I don't know what to do any more. I've lost sleep trying to get this resolved.

If you're having trouble with USB drives as well then that begins to point towards a motherboard problem. Hopefully a software one that can be resolved.

I'm not entirely sure but you could at least try updating the BIOS.

You might also want to see what it says about the driver for the M.2 drive by right-clicking on it in Device Manager. Uninstalling the driver or device and rebooting might force it to reinstaller the drivers, although it's a while since I've had to do anything like this.

Apologies for not responding in a while. So the USB issue was fixed by replacing the case. Front panel I/O must have took a crap. Anyways, the issue has....somehow resolved itself? What I did was uninstall it from "Others", scanned for new hardware, then miraculously it showed up under the "Disk drives" category and, by extension, disk management. I don't even know what's going on anymore. I've performed those steps, among others, at least 20 times. Could the case really have made a difference? 🤔
