New PC Headset

My Turtle Beach PX21's have just developed a loud buzzing/tin noise as of this morning, so I need a new headset.

I preferably want 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound, and this was my second Turtle Beach PX21 that I had, they seem rather unreliable and flimsy, so I'm kind of against Turtle Beach at this point. However, after researching a bit, I found 3 headsets:

-Logitech G35
-Razer Megalodon
-Psyko Krypton 5.1

My brother has the Logitech G35, and loves it. I have tried it on, very comfortable. It only has one wire(USB), doesn't require external power, and seems really durable.

The Razer Megalodon has great reviews, but according to this article(http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Surround-Sound-Headsets,review-1357.html), it isn't true surround sound...? What's the deal with that? Other reviews I read do not mention this. I have a Razer Naga, and have been very impressed with it so far, so I feel Razer makes good products.

The Psyko just kind of intrigues me. If it really delivers that much better audio and directional sound, I will consider it. I guess it's on sale right now too for $100, but it seems shipping is nearly $50...so $150 total. I read a thread on this from EVGA forums, and people say the directional audio is really good but the sound quality is sub-par. Anyone used this? Is it worth it?

And if you feel another headset I didn't mention is a better choice, I'm all ears.

Psyko Krypton's are known to have a hollow sound. It is great for directional sounds but when used for other things like music, videos, and movies, it will not sound good.

Razer Megalodon has some mic issues, I don't know if still has the problem.

I have read good things about the Logitech G35.

If cost is not a concern, you can also look at the Astro A40's as it uses optical jack for good sound.

You can also look at the new Razer Tiamat 7.1's. According to some of the reviews they sound great, I think getting the analog version would be best for sound.

Well, my headset seems to be working fine as of now, so I may not need a new one. Thanks for the reply though, I'll keep that in mind about the Tiamat!

Also, I read a Tom's article comparing like 8 headsets. One of them that ended up getting the recommendation at the end was the Corsair Vengeance 1500. Now, this offers virtual surround, not real. However, I've heard real surround sound in headsets is kind of a waste since even though there are multiple drivers in each ear piece, they are so close together that the virtual/software based simulated surround sound is just as good.

What are thoughts on this?

I actually own the Vengeance 1500, I didn't recommend it because it is powered by USB and the sound also goes through USB. From my experience, it is a great headphone for the performance, it uses a comfortable velvet earpad but very hard to clean, it's not like the leather type that other headsets use. But, there is a low whine or hiss when you go into certain applications such as games. The analog version of the Vengeance 1500 is the Vengeance 1300 that doesn't have the problem.

I've tested it using 5.1 and 7.1. The 5.1 works quite well for virtual surround sound, but 7.1 you may have to adjust where the sound is coming from. The 1500's comes with a sound program that you can be able to adjust. But you'd also have to go into the windows sound option to also turn on 7.1 (if you have a 7.1 capable onboard sound or audio card).
