I am having a hard time digesting all of the clock numbers with the new system I am building and am turning to you guys for help.

Here is what I purchased:

- Pentium D 950 @ 800mhz fsb
- DDR2 (PC5400) @ 667 mhz 2x1gb (OCZ 4-4-4-4-12)
- MSI 945 P Platinum which supports: DDR2 @ 667/533/400 & FSB @ 533/800/1066

Link to MSI 945P

I am pretty confident that these components will play well together with the research I have done. However, I am not sure @ what "speed" my FSB will be running at with the Mobo & CPU sharing the 800 speed, and the mobo & memory sharing the 667 speed.

Can anybody explain what speed the FSB will run at with this configuration and why?

Thanks!

Well, as you know the FSB *must* match the memory speed, unless a memory divider is put in. Memory dividers simply tell the motherboard to run the FSB at a fraction of what the memory is running at. In your case, the motherboard would set a 5:6 ratio, DRAM:FSB. For every five clocks that are in your memory, you get six clocks for your FSB.

Ok that makes sense, so I'll be running @ an 800mhz FSB. My second question is this, would it have been better for me to select slower memory to avoid running into the divider or will it not make a noticable difference?

Thanks for the response ikjadoon!
