Just got a Phanteks PH-F140XP fan today because I needed better airflow in my case. However, the fan won't spin at all. I've tried connecting it to several headers, from the ones on my mobo to the ones on my h100i, 4 pin and 3 pin. Makes no difference, it won't spin. I even tried switching other fans around, and they all worked fine, regardless of header. Did I get a defective fan?

Solution
The presence of the pin is meaningless.... all Asus Z87 boards had 4 pin CHA headers and they did not support PWM even tho the manual said so. The Rampage V should have full PWM support and it would appear you have set it correctly in the BIOS.

Sounds like you got a bum fan, I would return to seller for a replacement. If beyond that typical 30 day period, Phanteks will warrant the fan.
It's a PWM fan and should be connected to a PWM header. The fan curve on the PWM header should be set to provide rotation at the operating temperature. The number of pins on the MoBo headers is **not** an indicator of whether the header is PWM or DCV. Consult your MoBo Manual.

I did some googling and read the manual. I use the Asus Rampage 5 Extreme, and according to the manual, all the 4pins support PWM (Or they all had a PWM pin, anyway, which I assume means they support PWM fans).
I tried all the headers again, and I went to the Bios and turned on the fans from DC to PWM, but it made no difference. I also tried putting that specific fan in full-speed mode (So that it should spin at max, regardless of temperature), but still nothing. All the other fans responded to the changes I made in the Bios.

There's nothing else that could be wrong? I somehow just got a defective fan?

You could have blown headers ... you could apply 12v to the correct pins (black and yellow wires ... pins 1 and 2) and see if it spins. or you could connect another fan to same header.

Well, the headers as work, as my other fans have no problems with them. Guess there ain't anything to do about it.

I bought it from Amazon, and to be honest, it's quite a hassle to send it back for replacement. I'd have to buy the tape and the box and probably not even worth it, so I decided just to get a refund, which was nice and easy. No questions asked and no need to return the item.

I'll see about getting a new one in the future, if the need arises. For now, I've got two others coming tomorrow.

They sent me two new ones for free. I planned on putting the noisy one in the same box and sending it back.... but when i asked for an address they said don't bother.

Usually amazon just e-mails me a mailing label (pre-paid), I tape it to the box it arrived in and send back
