Yes, the AMD is a 3 year old processor on a 5 year old platform with no upgrade path. It's being replaced relatively soon. This is not the time to be investing in a new AMD system.

The Intel socket is on a platform that's six months old and has all current technology.

I don't know how much you want to spend but this is an ideal gaming system right now:

That's pretty decent, I'd get a better PSU though. I'm assuming your budget is $1000, so I would personally spend a little bit more cash and get a better PSU, probably a fully modular one. Maybe that's just me, but I wouldn't trust my machine to a $50 power supply.

4 cores are enough for high detail and most ultra games. The 8 cores are better for CPU intensive activities such as video editing. Ghz doesn't really matter that much. Intel is more stable than AMD overall in games (in terms of FPS) and they tend to favour the intel CPU more.

Yes they're extremely loud (personal experience) and is usually used for super tight budgets. Situations where you aren't going to overclock and won't mind the loud noises.

This is what I have right now. Its a little over budget right now, but I'm going to go down to the local computer shop and see if they have a used case that will work and how I can bring the budget down a bit without compromising.
