Today, I have had a problem with my h100i v2 cooler 'revving up' at random while idling or doing basic web browsing tasks, while set to the 'Quiet' preset. Corsair Link does record the fan speeds spiking, but records no difference in temperature inside the case, with the GPUs, or the CPU. It's happening about once every 10 seconds to 2 minutes, and it's LOUD. The fans are going from 'Quiet' level to 'Full Performance' level in a couple of seconds, then going back to normal almost as fast. It sounds quite a bit like someone revving a car engine at a stop light.
I've had this machine for 6-9months, with the same hardware, and I've never heard it do this before. I saw the Corsair logo flash red for just a second maybe an hour ago, but everything in the case is reporting temps no higher than 31c. The USB controller cable is plugged in, and the inside of the case is clean of dust.
It seems to have settled down after doing this for about 30 min, but I can't find any useful information on exactly why it's been doing this suddenly out-of-the-blue. I'm worried this is a sign that something is amiss with the cooler, and I'm wondering if I should be calling Corsair for a replacement or if I'm overreacting?
This is the hardware I have installed:
Windows 10
i7-6700k
MSI Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon MoBO
Corsair H100i v2 water cooler
CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 RAM
2x Asus Strix GTX 970 in SLI
EVGA SuperNOVA Platinum 850W Power Supply
PNY 240GB SSD (Boot)
WD 4TB HDD (Storage)
Blu-ray drive
