[citation][nom]friskiest[/nom]$500 PS4/Xbox 720 console:+ performance adequate for at least 5 years[/citation]

And by that, I assume you mean the 5 years BEFORE they were released?! 😵
Because as many here should know, that chip in there is roughly equivalent to a graphics card for ~$150 right now. And as also many here should know, that doesn't get you far even with current games. So when these consoles are released, their theoretical performance is going to be maybe a fifth to a sixth (it's currently about a quarter) of what the then most powerful single-GPU cards with adequate CPU/RAM can do.
If that isn't god awful and not worth the price then I don't know.

And to get back to the price - even currently, based on these specs, those things are barely worth $500 right now ($150 GPU, $100 CPU, $40 RAM, $160 for MB/HDD and everything else - not even to factor in that Sony/MS probably got special deals). At the point in time when they're released, the price/performance ratio is going to be even worse!

2 ethernet ports just not needed at all. They will release a slim model later on with only one. Wait and see. Looks like sony couldnt afford an intel prossesor, but guess that will do it. I hope they release better controllers with better sticks so they don't break.this has been a major issue to me.

Don't automatically assume that two RJ45 connectors on a device means two Ethernet controllers. It's extremely common for RJ45 connectors to be used to connect terminal devices which use serial links rather than Ethernet. One could also be used for diagnostics and failure recovery.

I know that, but what I'm saying is it is not needed on a gaming console. If they are smart enough they will provide the features people need on the o.s. so easily we can run a backup from the os ourselves, maybe only a usb port will do evereything. Like i;m saying, just add features, capabilities to the os.

[citation][nom]blppt[/nom]Hell, we still dont have great PS2 emulators out yet[/citation]

A PS2 game runs like butter on a 280 GTX, and I am talking the hard to emulate games like Shadow of the Colossus in full screen at 1920x1080. Now not all the games are 100% glitch free but a HUGE amount are playable just fine.

Remember, this is what, like 13 years after the PS2 console launched? Its not even just the power required to emulate the PS3 cell (which we do not have currently available for a cost effective consumer device), but all of its x86-foreign quirks. For example, there is no doubt that PC processors & GPUs have been far, far more powerful in every area than the R5900-based emotion engine + graphics synthesizer in PS2, but the difficulty in emulating everything these chips do perfectly have taken a looong time. Why do you think Sony didnt emulate the PS2 completely in software when the PS3 launched? There was no doubt at all that Cell + RSX were orders of magnitude more powerful than PS2, yet Sony chose to (at first) include parts of the PS2 chipset instead of saving money and doing it in software.

And when they finally got a decent working PS2 software emulator working (later PS3 models that still had the PS2 compatibility didnt actually have extra chips from the PS2), it didnt last long due to it costing so much money for upkeep and making PS2 games run well.

[citation][nom]LukeCWM[/nom]I'm glad AMD got the bid. They need the boost! But it's unfortunate that it's Bulldozer they landed with. Well, unfortunate for console gamers. Maybe it will shift more people towards PC gaming, but but I doubt it will affect many. Most console gamers I know don't care about visual detail or smoothness or high frame rate; they just want to shoot stuff.[/citation]

Not really, you can get a pc with better specs especially in regards to CPU, but we will be comparing a high latency environment with the overhead of Windows OS vs a low latency of a dedicated game box with a established baseline that developers can optimize for.

If anything, I am surprised that Sony would put such a monster GPU Radeon 7970M in a console(still skeptical about reports). If that were true, you would need a pretty expensive PC to top the ps4 at least initially out of the gate.

Of course, given the rate of turnover for PC components always becoming more powerful and cheaper, that advantage won't last long. But at least initially, in comparison to where the PS3 was against the pc scene in 2006-2007, if specs are true, than the PS4 is much stronger relative position.

not really, a 7970m is about equal to a 7870 which is about equal to a 6970

[citation][nom]juanc[/nom]FINALLY! We'll be able to emulate the PS4 and XBOX 720!THANKS Sony for putting AMD on it. It gives an extra punch to the Intel users when emulating.[/citation]

You have no idea what you are talking about...

Well if Sony goes with 4 gigs of GDDR5 memory 178GBs lets not forget that consoles are closed systems. The Api is is so much better then what Pc's use.I am a Pc guy as well,i bought the Playstation brand for the exclusives.I am about to build a new Pc using a i7 3770k cpu/7950 gpu/16 gigs of ram.Pc's will always have the hardware their is no question about it.Devs extract so much more out of consoles then they can with Pc's.The more money you have to buy better Pc hardware the better your gaming will be.
