Hi, I have a problem with my PC shutting off when the 7970 is under heavy load. Was wondering if I needed a new PSU to replace my old one. I have a SilverStone 1200W PSU.

I know when you look at this it might be a silly question, but I've done some searching around long enough to know it is way more than enough. I was hoping if you guys could help me figure out if it is my PSU or if it's something else.

My specs
i7-950
Cooler Master V10
ASUS Rampage III Extreme
12GB 1600MHz RAM
ASUS Xonar Essence STX
500GB WD Caviar Black
SilverStone 1200W SST-ST1200
XFX HD 7970 GHz
Gigabyte GTX 650

It will be. Problem is that I have a second GPU. Nvidia GTS 650 in this PC too. I run a Hybrid AMD GPU + Nvidia PhysX. I've roughly added up how much my PC uses. Should be a bit over 660W. I could be wrong.

Edit: Also, that 660 PSU doesn't have enough cables for this system.

Just throwing this out there, but depending on your processor, it might be faster to use PhysX on that rather than on an Nvidia card...

I'm thinking that your issue could easily be from drivers getting tangled - nvidia and amd's drivers are notorious for not liking each other.

I'm installing drivers on my server for the 7970. Had to move a few HDDs for room.

I have the i7-950 and I already tested that my CPU is not fast enough for PhysX.
Ex. Mirror's Edge Cpu = 15 fps and PhysX = 60 fps during a part with glass shattering.

I already removed all AMD and Nvidia Drivers and did a fresh install for the 7970. Samething. This system works perfectly with my 5970.

Ok. It runs fine on my server. It never able to run OCCT benchmark. Looks like it is my PSU that's causing the problem.

Last thing. What PSU do you guys recommend me getting? Prefer a full modular, Silver 80+, 900W+.

Edit: I'm planning to upgrade to the 2011 Socket with 2x7970 Crossfire with the GTX 650 as PhysX.

Here is everything you need to decide all the PSU's listed are high quality. http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/power-supply/#w=1600,1400,1200,1000,900&e=5,4,3&p=1&sort=a7&m=52,11,57,94,29,95,71,63,39
