New RAM disconnects Network

I'll try to keep this short. I have a 3 year old system that I built. Runs great but needed more RAM as it was running 2GB of PC2-5300 and I just upgraded to Win 7 Home Prem. The RAM I had in it is no longer made so I bought 2GB of a different PC2-5300. Installed, booted up, Windows recognized all 4GB. However, I now can not connect to my home network. This PC is connected to my Netgear router along with my main PC. I removed the new RAM, everything works again. Reinstall, no network. I've tried everything I know of: resetting router, sending cable internet directly into PC, moving the RAM around in the slots, etc. Nothing works. As long as all 4GB's are in the PC, it will not connect to the internet or network.

Any help would be appreciated. I already have the RMA approved for return but if I can get it working I'd like to keep it. I've built several computers and have never encountered something like this.

You presumably tried inserting just the new memory -- I would guess that the problem isn't with the modules themselves but the extra address space that extra modules is taking up.

Maybe this clashes with the Network Adapter.

Starting Windows several times should have sorted it.

This may seem odd but I suggest you go into the BIOS and disable any devices you are not using -- Parallel Printer port if you use a USB printer, COM ports, Game/Midi port. After restarting a few times, resources should have been reassigned and your memory module problem be sorted.

Well......worth a go anyway.

fihart,

I really appreciate the response but I've reached my frustration point and am just returning the RAM to Newegg and ordering 4GB to replace what is in there and bring it to a total of 4GB. Who knows, maybe the new 4GB will work with the existing 2GB and I'll get 6GB working.

Thanks again,
