New speakers making high pitch noise

Hi. i recently recieved a set of Harman/Kardon soundsticks 3 and found within a few days that they were making an audible high pitch whine. Having now put them away to be returned thinking they were faulty i have started thinking that the problem could be solved.

I read up on magnetic interfearence and realised that it could be a problem because i had the speakers right next to/ touching my monitor. Could this have been an issue?
I have also noticed that there is still a whine with them taken away but it doesnt seem like the same noise.

I need some help with this because i dont really want to have to return and buy a new set because (whine apart) they are really good and i dont have the time.

Have you considered that they may be revealing a noise that has always existed in your system, but your old speaker system didn't have the Frequency response to let it be audible?
Do they make this noise when the PC is turned off?

They still make the sound when disconected from the PC. all they need is power from the sub going into them for the noise.

Return them. They should NOT be making any noise standalone.

Ok fair enough. I will do. I just plugged them back in and its deffinatly them. I think if was older or had worse hearing It would be totally fine. its a really minor sound but its allways there ontop of everything. Thank you
