Hi Guys,

Below is a system I put together to replace our old PC primarily used for editing with Adobe Premiere & Affter Effects. Gaming capability is not required. Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Approximate Purchase Date: this/next week

Budget Range: 2500 Swiss Francs (approx 2900 US$ / Shipping is free in Switzerland)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Film editing with Adobe Premiere & After Effect's

Are you buying a monitor: No

Do you need to buy OS: No (will run on Win 10 and soon Win 11)

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: www.digitec.ch

Location: Zürich, Switzerland

Parts Preferences: Intel CPU, MSI or Gigabyte Motherboard, Corsair or Seasonic PSU

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080 or 1920x1200

Additional Comments: Air CPU cooling prefered to water cooling

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Current System is almos 10 years old and really struggles when working in Adobe Premiere/After Effects with larger files

Hi Geofelt,

Thank you kindly for taking the time to respond to my post. :)

The i9-14900K CPU would be available at almost the same price. However I didn't pick it as while the Gigabyte Website says it's compatible with the Gigabyte Z790 AORUS ELITE AX. The supplier here in Switzerland said it isn't. I tried to call Gigabyte support but couldnt get through and had no luck through their ticketing system. So basically picked the 13900 just to be on the safe side.

However I see you are running a i9-14900K on a Z690. So I guess it probably is compatible?

Kind regards

You can go with DDR4 and save some cash. gives you enough room to upgrade to 4070ti super with 16gb vram for your tasks.

https://www.tomshardware.com/features/ddr5-vs-ddr4-is-it-time-to-upgrade-your-ram

"the gains in Adobe Photoshop (DDR4-3200 C15 vs. DDR5-6400 C36) and Adobe Premiere (DDR4-3600 C16 vs. DDR5-5600 C36) were less than 1% and 3%, respectively."

My suggested PC build:

    • Intel Core i7-14700K (3.4 GHz / 5.6 GHz)CHF 446.95
    • DeepCool AK620 BlackCHF 72.50
    • Gigabyte Z790 AORUS ELITE AX DDR4CHF 245.95
    • Kingston FURY Beast 64GB (2 x 32GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL16CHF 163.95
    • 2 x Crucial T500 2TBCHF 339.90
    • Cooler Master Elite 500 ODD BlackCHF 52.50
    • MSI MPG A850G PCIE5CHF 123.95
    • 2 x Arctic P12 PWM PST BlackCHF 14.50

Here is the link to support for your motherboard:
https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z790-AORUS-ELITE-AX-rev-10/support#support-cpu

The discrepancy may be that 14th gen support needs bios level F9 which was installed on all motherboards made since sept 2023.
In the event that your supplier only has old stock that they are trying to unload, the motherboard has a Qflash capability that allows bios updates without an installed cpu.
