New System - Bad Lockups

New System -

Abit KT7A-RAID
AMD Athlon-C 1200
256 MB Viking PC133
Geforce 256

System hangs at different times. While Idle, during benchmarks, while surfing... no rhyme or reason. System just freezes, have to reset!

CPU and system idle temps hover around 27c

I'll be checking all my Abit drivers tonight and all drivers for my cards... I'll look into IRQ conflicts as well.

What else can I check? What could this be? Any suggestions?

I can't run 3Dmark2001 at all, it locks everytime!

SiSoft Sandra Scores:

Memory Benchmark-
Int ALU/RAM - 369
Float FPU/RAM - 395

Processor Benchmark-
Dhrystone ALU - 3343 MIPS
Whetstone FPU - 1641 MFLOPS

How bad does it look????????

Hmmm my first guess would be to make sure that (a) your CPU is specced to do 133MHz FSB, and (b) the Viking memory is specced to do 133MHz as well. Viking Components has an odd habit concerning their DIMMs; while the module as a whole may be rated to only do PC100, there's a marking on one end that suggests the memory is PC133. This could confuse many vendors...

There should be two labels on each DIMM; the large one with the Viking logo on it should have the part number. You can check this number against what's listed at the Viking Components web site.

Also, if the memory is PC133, make sure it isn't running at only 100MHz. I don't know if this carries over for the PC133 line of Viking memory, but Viking's PC100 line would not work at PC66--not for any chipset/mobo that I tried. If the memory was clocked below its recommended specs, the system would not even POST. This actually breaks PC100 specs...

along similar lines with the memory, if it's low performance ram and you try to run it at aggressive cas2 fast timings it will cause instability

God, I just love these posts. seems like more and more each day =)

Buy more AMD!

Its all part of that price/performance ratio thingie. getting your monies worth I see.
