[citation][nom]ReggieRay[/nom]It will fail like the Zune, the copy cat company is too late and I bet it is still a bloated resource hog.[/citation]
The Zune didn't fail. It simply became unnecessary when modern smartphones developed the ability and the storage capacity to handle media files well. The Zune was one of dozens of media devices by several companies that are no longer relevant.

so many apps....most of them are worthless

If I hear that silly made up word "apps" one more time.....

Indeed so many of those applications are worthless, kind of reminds me of the rot that has killed the main stream cable networks ....so many channels and almost nothing on worth watching.

Microsoft doesn't need a tablet. They already have hardware manufacturers using Windows on their tablets. Its a slap in the face to these manufacturers who use a Windows platform.

They are not Apple, they should live with being the best software developers in the world. Burning relationships with a legion of hardware manufacturers will only hurt their core business.

To all the people being ultra negative to the idea of a Windows tablet.
Windows tablets coming out will help you even if you do not buy one.
The reason for this is competition. It gives more reason for all companies involved to strive for a better product and a cheaper price to compete.

If you do not wish to have one that is perfectly fine. It is your choice on what you wish to buy. But do see the benefits of other brands and services existing even if you do not prefer them. I however will wait until they are actually released before I judge them.

you must also call www the world wide web everytime you use it too.
fact is they are applications, and that is shortened to apps,

i like windows, but the more it goes into apple teritiry the more i hate the os they make. i havent gotten vista or 7 largely because of the horrific ui, and vistas bloatness that made it unusable until you really tweaked it.

what people are afraid of is their os will become a mobile os for the pc. imagine if windows on the desktop functioned exclusively like ios

Windows optimized for tablets? Wreaks of WinMo 6 all over again, and we all know how elegant and functional that was. Every single app a struggle to cover up the ugly that is Windows. No more than 3 steps into the system and you were back staring at a clearly non-optimized standard windows interface totally useless to a portable user.

Microsoft, when will you learn. Quit being lazy and trying to dress up your desktop OS, and throw away that garbage you call Windows Phone OS and start from scratch again, this time actually designing new ideas rather than dancing around patent infringement of others.

Since when is X86 limited compared to iOS or Android.

So X86 means I can run a full Enterprise Edition of MS Office, or Photoshop, or Crysis.

X86 hasn't held me back so far and by the way, stop calling them "Apps", they are called "Programs" and Windows has been able to run millions of the damn things for nearly 20 years.

I actually own a tablet running windows 7, and I can tell you without a doubt that yes they do need a tablet version of the OS, or at least a major overhaul. You try using your finger to click a 20mm X in the top right corner of the screen to close an application, try using the built in keyboard. Yes they work, but they aren't efficient. There are many things that can be made much more touch friendly.

And that is fine everyone has different tastes. Certainly Windows has its flaws and I agree with you on that. Do I expect the Windows tablet to be superior? Certainly not at-least not right off the bat. However lets say that it turns out decent, not great but decent and sells fairly well.
This is going to force a change within tablets which could mean better products and/or lower prices due to competition. If you are someone that uses tablets this is a benefit to you even if you have no intentions on buying the Windows tablet.

Just imagine a world where the only MP3 players were iPods. iPods are already expensive and they no doubt have room for improvement. The iPod would be even more expensive drastically in-fact and would have no reason to improve their product. The competition however keeps the wheel of innovation and the prices lower. This even includes Microsoft's Zune, yes we all like to poke fun at it but even those of us carrying a iPod should be thankful that its there.

I personally hope every single OS platform for tablets improves and all of them become great. In the end this makes the consumer win.
