I've tried multitple driver versions & disabling fastwrites, but decided just to RMA the piece of junk. Artifacts pretty much happen within 10-30 seconds of running any 3D Ap, and lock up the machine if I let them go on for a few seconds. Ran about 15 seconds of 3dmark03 and then esc'ed minimized 3dmark and captured the temp screenie.

Had visual artifacts when my card reached over 100º, due to ATITool screwing up control of the fan speed, leaving it at what seemed to be 0%/shut off.

Mine were more like small bits scraping out of some icons and images, inside Windows. You could tell it was no longer rendering the screen right.

Sounds like yours had some faulty cooling or somethin'.

BTW why did you buy a new card?

Strangest artifacts I have ever seen. They always start at the middle of the screen and star outward.

It was $117 after rebate through Buy.com. Too good a deal to pass up. I'd put it in a build to sell, or in a spare machine. Luckily, I opened the box to test it before cutting the upc label off for the rebate.

Now that this is getting returned, I have my eye set on the X800 pro vivo listed on pricewatch.

I don't know wether to blame the RAM, the high core temps, or the bridge on the card. But it was the same on two systems, so it's something to do with the card.

Yeah that's a good tip I tell my customers as well. NEVER go impulsively by sending the rebate right off if you have not tested the product and found it to be properly working and it satisfies you. Else, good luck returning it.

A buddy of mine bought one the same day. His is fine; I just lucked out.

Looks like F'ed up RAM, or a totally F'ed up GPU segment (likely vetex), but I agree, just strange.

I don't think there's anything that could be done with that, RMA is the only hope.

EDIT: If you still have it you might want to try X2 (only vertex shaders) and the FinalFantasy benchmark (only pixel shaders IIRC) to see if either can run ok, that might give you some interesting insight.

I just wanted to state that Buy.com seriously impressed me on this RMA. They issued a UPS prepaid shipping label and gave me a full refund. My cost for this lousy card, not one penny! I've been a long-term happy Newegg customer as well as many other sites, but must say Newegg falls far short of this as original and return shipping are both not refunded. ANyway, just wanted to share what some of you may already know, Buy.com rules for RMA's. Even non-defective RMA's there is no restocking fee, you just pay the return shipping. If priced the same, it will be Buy.com for me from now on.

Nice! 😎

Do they ship to Canada?

It was nice to come home from vacation seeing that the full credit went through. They don't ship to Canada though. :frown:

I was eyeing up a retail BBA X800XL AGP for $262 shipped. Not the best price I've seen, but considering the return policy, not bad. If only it had a $50 rebate.

Glad I didn't cut the UPC then or I'd been dealing with XFX also.
