I am coming over from xbox to the pc gaming world and I am looking to build my first computer.

This will be used strictly for gaming. I play mostly fps. I want it to be a strong enough system to last a few years with minimal upgrades. I will mostly be playing in the 1440 res.
here is a list of what I have come up with. any suggestions or critiques would ne greatly appreciated.

thanks krank

Solution
In your build the GTX1080 you opted is overpriced only for the reason of being overclocked to higher frequency which caused you to go for i5-6600K instead of i7-6700K.
The motherboard I opted has many special features which will help you through. For example if you are uneasy with OC the software which comes with that motherboard will automatically OC the CPU to stable clock speed. It has best OC features and other software which will help the user to attain required setting with ease. Even it's quality is top of the line.
Windows 10 both Home and Pro editions are good for gaming.
Here is a better build:

Admirable

I second this. Very well built. You should be abble to max-out everything in 1440p with playable FPS with this rig.

Thanks for the suggestions. Can you explain why it is better? I am new to this stuff and just was wondering. Also is there a certain operating system that is better to use than another?

thanks krank

You're playing at 1440p? The GTX 1070 is already overkill for that. Save money with this build.

This build right here if you are going to just play 1440p. 1070 is all you need but the i7-6700 is the best you can get right now for the money.

imo, If i would have to Build my PC again. I would do a ITX with a tiny case. Like the ENTHOO EVOLV ITX. Cost more but sexy and a lot smaller. I would only do a mid or full size case if you are going to do a 2011v3 mother board.

The monitor I have will support 1440p, but I would like to have the option to go higher as the funds become available without have to do major upgrades to the computer system since I am just building it. If that makes since.

Thanks king for the additional info, that is exactly the type of info I was looking for. I am not comfortable with OC but I am a tinker by nature and know it is something that I would like to do in the near future.
