Hey there,

Brand new to the OC'ing world, decided I fancied a tweak to see what I could do with my Asus P5N-E SLI motherboard (latest BIOS) and Q6600 (B0) quad core. I also have 4GB of PC2-6400 (5-5-5-18), and a 1gb Geforce 8500GT.

I read a few of the default guides/tutorials on OC'ing and checked out some people with similar stats/specs, and my first step was to run Nvidia's nTune app and let it do the full 3-hour stress-test / thing it does. That got my processor up from 2.4GHz to around 2.6GHz, and my FSB to around 1150. This ran fairly unreliably, a few BSOD errors popping up within a day, so I decided to reset nTune back to my un-OC'd system and then uninstalled it to try the manual route.

I then did a tad of tweaking (all I did was up my vCore by a little bit and changed my FSB to 1200 in my BIOS), and the thing wouldn't boot up at all. Switch it back on after the reboot and the HDD light goes nuts, the screens don't come on, and it just sits there, so I have to go back into the BIOS and reset the settings entirely before it'll boot again.

So, what am I doing wrong? Nothing was running particularly hot at any time during this (nothing over around 40 degrees C), so I'm guessing it's not any kind of heating issue. What other things should I be adjusting or looking out for, should I be able to overclock it past around 2.6GHz (I've been reading of people getting to 3GHz with Q6600s quite easily)?

All advice appreciated! Thanks :)
