[citation][nom]Regulas[/nom]Have bought many items from new egg over the years but moving away now. I am starting to shop at Tiger Direct now instead of Newegg. Not because of this issue but because of their newer web page design, it is not Linux Friendly. I use Ubuntu on my laptop to shop and Neweggs new Flash based expanded views of items is not Linux friendly. When I wrote them about it they told me to switch to Windows and Internet Explorer, total rubbish.[/citation]I have no basis to confirm or deny Newegg's policy, but assuming it's accurate, that's sufficient reason to not buy from them. The Internet is about standards, fail to use those standards at your own risk. Telling users to switch hardware and software (AND at the user's expense) because you don't use the standards is absurd.
Note to Newegg and every other e-tailer, news site, etc. Windows and IE may have the largest market share, but if your site isn't usable to the other 20% of users (many of whom are very computer literate and influence other buyers), fix your site ASAP. I refuse to use sites that only work properly with IE or only work properly with Windows, unless it's a site that contains Windows only information/products, and even that's a poor excuse. Comply with w3c standards when creating your site, then add just enough non-standard stuff to get it to ALSO work with IE.
Now, Flash may not be a w3c standard, but not having Flash support on your Ubuntu/browser combination seems a bit odd. Adobe does offer Flash for Linux (although I don't know anything about how well it works or it's compatibility with various browsers or Linux distrubutions).
