Out of curiousity, of the total number of NewEgg motherboard reviewers that state their boards were DOA, what percentage do you think are caused by user error? Incorrectly connecting power, inserting cpu, not using spacers, etc. I've made quite a few purchases from them and have never had a single problem. Your experiences?

A lot, I can admit to having to send two different boards back. The first one was on my first build and the problems had to do with a faulty power supply and not the board. The second one was because the board didn't support the version of processor I put into the board. Both of these things I figured out when I got the new boards back and was presented with the same problem.

I have purchased over 25 machines from newegg and only one board was actually bad.

I had one die within Gigabyte's warranty period, but never got a DOA from NewEgg. I glance at the reviews, and sometimes can spot an obvious drone, so I'm sure a lot of them ARE user error, or compatibility issues that could have been avoided with a little pre-purchase research.

That's what I was thinking. For any parts I can't find extensive reviews on, especially motherboards, I always find it's safer to ask here than to trust any of the NewEggers.

I had a friend who used to complain that CompUSA sold defective hard drives because he had 3 in a row that didn't work when he installed them. Found out he pick them up at the store, then strap them to the back of his motorcycle and ride home. I'm sure the hard-drive platters looked like someone had stuck them in an industrial paint shaker.

yeah I can't imagine what its like for hardware makers. In an industry such as this where everything is very sensitive to esd and other components failing, its amazing anyone makes money.

A compnay like new egg seems to have excellent service.

My biggest issues was never with mb's but back in the 7900gt days. This was when they had huge issues with overclocking memory by default, and the memory then becoming corrupted. So 3 seperate times I had to rma' the card. That is expensive when yoru shipping to CA, but luckily they were nice enough to let me return the 3rd one free of a restocking fee.

I bought another brand instead of xfx, evga. Very happy after that with no more issues.

I will highly recommend and swear by evga. Their service is excellent. I very rarely have had issues, but when I did, they took care of me. Now that is how you build a reputation and have return customers which is so important in todays world of computer hardware.

I'm sure it's one of those things where it looks like they have a higher percentage or RMAs because I'm guessing a huge amount of people who buy from NewEgg are happy and don't bother writing reviews.

When people get something like a MoBo that doesn't work and that they had to RMA they usually let people know about it.....frustration and venting.....that kind of thing. Of course we won't know which one's are because of the user, because....

1. Either they thought they knew what they were doing and jacked it up.
2. They did know what they were doing and it was DOA.
3. Someone who didn't know what they were doing and got a DOA board.
4. People who did know what they were doing and just made a mistake in the setup and sent it back claiming it was bad when they got it.

I have yet to receive a DOA from NewEgg.
I have bought both new and open box from them.
I have received one DOA board from ZipZoomFly, it was a 939 GigaByte a few years ago. I sent it back and was refunded my money in full, after I talked with tech support at GigaByte.
I have used 2 boards that needed a bios update to allow the use of the cpu I wanted to use. The second board I was lucky, as it booted with the CPU but the OS would not install. It has one of the better bios' where it would load the new bios update from a floppy. After that, the OS installed without trouble.
I did have a board that was a PITA, Vista would not load until I disabled PPM, what ever that is.
Overall I think boards are getting better.

I just RMA'd an Asus P5N-D from New Egg. It ran, but i was only getting 15FPS and BSODs. All the hardware on it was good. In fact i put all the same hardware back on my old mobo and it worked fine. I am afraid of buying another P5N-D right now.

I purchased a Micro ATX MSI 945GCM478-L Motherboard (Socket 478) from Newegg that was DOA. I went to my local retailer and bought the exact same motherboard, and it too was DOA. I ended up buying an Asus board (for twice as much as the MSI board from Newegg) and it worked great. After I RMA'd the board and sent it back, I noticed all the sudden on Newegg’s sight they were offering an “open box” MSI board of the same makes. Was it the same board? I'll never know.
A couple weeks later I bought a Micro ATX ASUS P5KPL-AM/PS (Socket 775) from Newegg that also was DOA. Again I went to my local retailer and bought a similar Asus board for twice as much as Newegg’s price. At least it worked.
I now am doubting Newegg’s MoBo's. I hate builds that have glitches like that.
In defense of Newegg, I bought an ATX ASUS P5Q Pro that works great. I bought this board before I bought the two Micro ATX boards.
