Newly built PC first time boot up... no monitor signal

Hi everyone.
I'm now getting to the stage where I could rip my hair out. Here's my build -

As far as I know, I've installed everything correctly. My RAM is in slots 2 and 4 from the CPU. My dad helped with building and he's an electrician so I don't think it will be anything glaringly obvious. I turn my PC on and everything starts running. All the fans are going, everything lights up. (No beeps from motherboard but I'm not sure if that motherboard is supposed to... a light comes up on it).
I had to wait an extra couple of days after finishing my build while an adapter came through. I got VGA to DVI adapter as my monitor only came with that. I hope that's not the reason because I haven't got anything else. HDMI cables don't seem to work either.

Again, I've tried my very best to make sure everything is where it's supposed to be and all the cables are in... but my monitor just won't have any of it.

Please help.

Are you plugging the cable into the GPU ports and not the Mobo by accident? I did that once and drove me insane!

Is there any possibility you can test with another monitor so that can be ruled out?

Hi! Yes, I've tried both Motherboard and GPU ports. Both HDMI and DVI. I know the monitor works as I'm using it right now for my 'current' PC. I do have another older monitor I can try I suppose. Thanks for the reply!

Best to rule out the cheaper alternatives. Have you tried different cables. Recently at work, I had a very similar issue, with a setup using an adapter, after removing that it worked fine.

Older monitor didn't work either. I only have HDMI cables and VGA cables. The PC has HDMI and DVI ports so I had to use an adapter. I hope to the gods that isn't the problem because I just forked out enough money for the adapter.

What inputs does your monitor have? If it only has VGA, then you need an active converter to convert the digital signal from your video card to the analog input of your monitor. A plain adapter won't work.

My monitor has DVI, VGA and HDMI. I only have VGA and HDMI cables. I got a VGA to DVI adapter and nothing has worked. Does this mean I will need a thorough DVI cable?

Just in case anyone searches for a similar issue, it seems as though my RAM hadn't been properly installed. I took them out and put them back in, applying enough force so I heard the click (which I didn't first time) and then it worked. That must have been the issue. Thanks to everyone on here who gave advice.
