Built a system for my brother about 3 weeks ago, and now it seems that in some applications the sound starts breaking up after about 10-15 minutes.

The system:
XP2500+ (stock cooler)
Abit NF7-S
9800Pro
512Mb Generic DDR400 (1 stick)
Win98SE

Nothing overclocked (yet  ). Temps are ok - a quick reboot and it's fine again for 10-15 mins - so doesn't seem like overheating, and temps seemed ok when I built /tested it.

I am aware that there is a win98SE issue with soundstorm anyway which a hotfix sorts out, as I had that one myself, but I don't have this problem he has.

Running Nforce 2.41 motherboard drivers. I didn't bother installing the Abit drivers that came with the board.

I haven't looked at it myself (Just talked over the 'phone), and I'll likely just shove an SB Audigy card I have spare in there for the time being until I have a spare afternoon to troubleshoot it.

Any ideas people?

Summer's here! so ease off the overclock...

I would try the latest UDP <A HREF="http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_win9x_4.20" target="_new">drivers</A> first.

Try muting the line-in and mic.

And lastly, there's another patch that can be used with the one you already used. <A HREF="http://www.carpetrhino.net/Q269601.EXE" target="_new"> Q269601.EXE</A>.

One of those things has to work.
