After installing Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition on a new system
built around the Asus A7N8X, I see an icon in the lower right corner of
the Windows interface with a red "X" through it.

It states that the network connection is "unplugged."

I know very little about networking and I am not using this computer in
a networked environment.

Is this "X" normal?

Can I make it go away.
It is distracting.

Thanks for any pointers.

Start, Settings, Control Panel, Network Connections,
Right Click on "Local Area Connection" and Select Disable.

....go to Control Panel>Networking Options and rightclick the icon which says
its unplugged, then just disable it.
