You are right but it still hurts to hear you say that.

IMO The wii was successful because it was different and more interactive, this time around besides the controller it's more of the same. They needed to invest more into a more powerful system, the only thing keeping it afloat is the fanbase but when the new PS4/Xbox720 come sales can only get even worse and they will be forced to lower prices.

then I say No Wii buy.

I waited years for NGC to drop to reasonable price or to have more than the 5 games I felt like playing. Didn't happen. Then I waited years for Wii price to become reasonalbe or to have more than the 5-wii plus 5-NGC games that seemed worth playing. Didn't happen. I continue waiting for Wii-U to become worth a buy, or for Dolphin team to optimize their emu to run those 10 games flawless on my rig, whichever happens first. no hurry ...

s997863,

Sorry man, if you can't buy a Wii at 79.99$ with Super Mario Galaxy (1 or 2), Zelda (1 or 2), Mario Kart, Wii Sports (any of them), and SSBB... Then your idea of "Cheap enough with 5 good games" is ridiculous.

Don't even think about buying an Xbox or PS3 with those guidelines, as you just claimed the price and game 'top 5' games were not good enough.

once they release a new smash brothers i will buy the console and happily use it mostly for that, when a zelda game comes out i will play that to... if a metroid game emerges i will probably get that btu mos tthe titles i have seen look like shovelwae and i have no interestin... the only reason i got the wii was smash brother sand jsut got 4-5 more games over the coarse of the console's life because of it

I bought a Wii U Deluxe near launch, and I don't regret it at all. It's a great system overall. They do need to make some improvements to the UI and to the overall speed of the menus, but it's not a huge deal.

The Netflix integration is awesome. Using the tablet controller to play games and movies in bed is awesome. I love using the nunchuck/wii mote combination for Modern Warfare 2. Overall the graphics on the Wii U are very impressive and I expect to see some beautiful games come out in the future. The New Super Mario bros looks gorgeous and so does Trine 2. It might not have crazy specs for a console, but based on what I've seen with just the launch titles, it does look great.

I think when you combine the semi-hefty price tag of the Wii U and the lack of titles available (which are also pricey at $60) it's not a huge shock sales aren't higher. But once more titles launch and the existing ones see some price drops, sales will pick up imo. Also with some new features coming with future OS updates, it will definitely become more attractive with time.

That's totally not true, just check at the sale figures in japan, Nintendo is still number 1. People forget fast that the PS3 is still 300$.

Pal... you couldn't find more than 5 GC games worth playing?

Eternal Darkness
RE4
REmake
RE0
Smash Bros
Metroid Prime 1
Metroid Prime 2
Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes
F-Zero GX
Zelda Wind Waker
Paper Mario and the thousand years door
Tales of Symphonia
Baten Kaitos
Pikmin
Fire Emblem...

On the contrary pal, the GC was one of the best system from Nintendo, but so many ignorant don't have a clue about it.

I actually have to agree with HIM and NOT you...
Eternal Darkness (eh...)
RE4 (Good game)
REmake (don't care)
RE0 (good game)
Smash Bros (Awesome)
Metroid Prime 1 (Awesome)
Metroid Prime 2 (Awesome)
Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes (Never got into the MG series)
F-Zero GX (Awesome)
Zelda Wind Waker (Awesome)
Paper Mario and the thousand years door (Not interested)
Tales of Symphonia (Not interested)
Baten Kaitos (Not interested)
Pikmin (Not interested)
Fire Emblem (Eh.. it was decent)

So...
What happened?
Nintendo's own first party games were typically pretty dang good. Other games I could get on the other systems (PS2). And that's about the end of it....

For me the only thing that sells a Nintendo console to me are the first party games like Zelda. Which is why I would love for Nintendo to just give up and go the way of Sega.

Having a friend that works at Gamestop, I have been told that what appears to be the biggest problem with Wii U in terms of sales is that "noone knows what it is." What he means by this is those 50 million non gamers who bought the Wii, don't understand what the Wii U is because they are not gamers and don't follow the same replacement cycle console developers have tricked everyone else into. He said 9 of 10 people who come in looking for a Wii U think its just the controller and after explaining to them its a new system, they don't just leave, they leave confused.

Most of the rest of us don't care about the Wii U, unless we want new first party NES games that don't even exist yet.

I've heard that theory before and there's probably some truth to it, Nintendo isn't really selling the system well. Honestly your story however just makes me think people sure are stupid these days. Gamestop advertising and any other adverts likely advertise it as a system or console. It's pretty obvious it isn't just a $350 controller. What did they think the Wii was, a "personal massager"?

The fact that any customer would leave the store still confused also says a lot for the salesmanship and information of Gamestop employees. If they came in confused, it's their job to clear up that misinformation and convince them of how awesome the product is. The problem isn't with the car manufacturer if the car salesman can't close the deal.

>Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto told reporters that demand for the Wii U will be propelled once consumers try the console out and "see it is fun."

Well - I for one am just waiting for the arrival of the next Zelda (and/or Mario) game before I run off to the store. Seeing as I'm an unemployed student, I can't just throw money around anymore... :)

Also looking forward to The Wind Waker remake, and if the Wii U would be able to render Wii games (not upscale, but actually render) in high quality that would be totally sweet - I feel as if I was missing out on quite a bit of beauty in Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, when I saw the games running in emus on powerful computers...

as u can see in the coments everyone who have the wiiu are loving it, so miyamoto cant be more right in what he said

thanks for the info. the few GC games I had in mind were ALL in your list (except Ikaruga) so we must have similar tastes, and I'll check out the other titles you listed.

80$ wii with free games included sounds good to me! are you talking about used or new? the lowest price I found for a new GC-compatible Wii system-only is ~160$, plus looooong shipping in my case (and my local shopkeepers are stubborn not to take any losses by dropping their remaining Wii prices here below 300$ until today. harumph!).

[citation][nom]kinggraves[/nom]The controller costs at least 100 to make, so try 250 tops. Until PC games are properly supported on Linux, you've blown half your budget on the OS alone.[/citation]

Paying for a new OS licence every time you build your system? YOUR GONNA HAVE A BAD TIME!

WiiU needs it's killer app, nuff said.

I'm not going to say that people aren't stupid, but I think you are overlooking the amount of non gamers that bought the Wii. Parents and grandparents that know nothing about games don't understand. However, I agree with the price thing. That confuses me as to how someone doesn't pay attention to that.

The problem is its the severe lack of games. Once I bought the console, I was entertained for maybe 2 months. Then, I turn around and notice that most likeable games aren't launching till holiday season or later.
