Hey guys-
I just built a home PC with the following spec's:
Asus P5B-E mobo
E6300 Intel Core 2 Duo
A-Data 1 gig RAM
6500GT Nvidia card
Win XP Pro with SP2

I installed the drivers from the Asus CD and tried to install the utilities too. When I go to the Asus Update utility, it starts to run, but then gives me an error message saying: No Asus Motherboard found.

Have you guys ever seen that before? Any idea what I should do?

Thanks

I've found the Asus Update software to be very buggy. For example, it always hangs for me when I try to update from the internet. Have you tried to download the BIOS file and then select "Update from file" in the Asus utility?

My best advice is to update the BIOS using a thumb drive and the EZFlash2 utility found in the BIOS.

Thanks for your help! I wondered about using a thumb drive, but how do you boot the machine? Do you just boot into the BIOS and use the EZFlash2 utility in there?

Make sure your thumb drive is formatted FAT32. Insert the thumb drive into a USB port and then boot the computer. Enter the BIOS by pressing DEL. Once in the BIOS, go to TOOLS->EZFLASH2.

When you enter the utility, it should show the files on the flash drive if it can read from it. You may need to browse for it. The utility will not read NTFS file systems and will appear to hang if you try to navigate an NTFS partition.

Before doing anything BACKUP your existing BIOS just in case something goes awry (this step has personally saved me before). Also, write down your BIOS settings if you don't know them by heart. Flash the new BIOS, reboot, and reconfigure the BIOS.

Should be as simple as that.
