No HDMI Signal in monitor (new build )

Well i built my 1st pc today with no experience or help lol
1st problem i had was the pc wouldn't turn on - fixed that
now the problem i have is when i plug my hdmi from pc to monitor
it says~ "no hdmi signal detected" it was working yesterday with my old pc
i have salvaged the HDD and the CD/DVD drive from that.

my specs are-

i5 2500k
Gigabyte z77-d3h
msi GTX 560 ti
8gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz
1tb hitachi 7200
stock cpu cooler
Antec 900 case

note~ i am using the hdmi slot from the motherboard not the graphics card as the gpu one is a mini hdmi


any help would be greatly appreciated.

monitor is a benQ 24" and sorry for quality of the camera

This may seem silly, but is there a button on the monitor to switch between the inputs, because it may be set to VGA or the white port, the name of which has slipped my mind.

1: how did you manage to solve your "not turning on problem" it may be related.
2: list your PSU
3: use 1 ram stick at a time
4: I'd definitely format that drive first before using it or expect a lot of BSODs because your OS may have drivers that are left over from your previous build conflicting with your new build. but it would boot up none the less.

1. i didnt have the mobo 24 pin inserted correctly
2. i have a Corsair CX600 PSU
3. I will try now.
4. i have thrown out my pc, i have an os installed on the hdd, could i boot it up and then format while running then install windows 7 ?

There may be a setting in the BIOS to force it to use your on-board video from your motherboard. If you want to use your graphics card, you will need to use the mini-HDMI or DVI/VGA (if applicable) from your GPU.

2. that psu should be fine.
3. be sure to follow your motherboard's manual when only using 1 stick, it usually has an order of populating DIMMSs.
4. boot with the win7 installation CD then format and install from that, when you get it working.

also it usually defaults to using the graphics card display out when you have a graphics card installed, be sure to plug your monitor into that instead.
alternatively as you don't have a mini hdmi cable, remove your graphics card first then try to boot with the monitor connected to the motherboard

if you had a graphics card installed at any point some boards really screw up if your remove them, try flashing the CMOS (use the jumper) and try again.

be sure to always electrically discharge yourself by touching an exposed metal part of your case, or your psu casing before handling any component inside your pc. best of luck.

now buy yourself a cable so you could plug into your video card
also can you post exactly what you did to solve the problem for other people having the same problems.

I removed the graphics card and booted the pc up, using the motherboards onboard graphics

What If you have no onboard graphics, just the card?

gowergab: with no mobo graphics and only a graphics card to use, you can ONLY connect from that card to your monitor. Of course, that means you need to have the right cable to connect. OP's situation here was that he had a graphics card but not the right cable for it, so he tried to use the mobo's built-in system. But, as others said, with two possible video sources installed, the mobo BIOS defaulted to using only the vid card, and OP was not plugged into that.
