I have built a computer but can't seem to get an input signal from the computer to the tv. I have an asus crosshair v formula z MB a FX 9590 CPU and a gtx asus dual 1070 with a 1000w PSU. Rig turns on and all the fans run and disks spin. There's a lot on my gpu saying it has power. I checked the hdmi cable. I tried another gpu and the rig wouldn't even turn on. Thoughts on how I can trouble shoot and find out what's actually wrong here?

Follow these steps and see if anything catches your eye. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems

Try clear cmos

With the two 1070s in, are you connecting TV to the top card?

When the PC wouldn't turn on, it just wouldn't power on or? Should have still powered on if everything was connected right even if the gpu was dead. Didn't happen to dislodge any wires like the case power button pin header and it went back into place coincidentally maybe? Or forget to switch the PSU switch to on at the back?

Did the PC turn on with the 1070s back?

I don't have two 1070 cards. I just used a lesser card to see if it was my 1070. It wouldn't even turn on with the lesser card. It turns on when I have the 1070 in there but still no display.

Oh ok thought you had sli because you said dual 1070.

Test 1070 in another machine make sure that works and the other card too.

Have you tried clearing cmos and checked things over in the steps provided in the link?

Do you have the 8pin pcie power cable connected to the 1070? The pcie slot provides 75w of power, enough to spin the fans and illuminate any lighting but not enough for the whole card. Reason for the question if you happen to have forgotten the pcie cable.

I don't know if I would have access to another machine to test it. It's plugged in with the 6+2 plug ins. I've never cleared cmos before so I guess I'll have to give that a shot.

Hoping clearing cmos will clear any possible issues regarding ram.

System not powering on at all with a different gpu is worrying and would indicate PSU. What GPU is it? The reason im asking is afaik it could be an older tier 1 card that draws more power than the 1070 despite being slower. In saying that it just could be the PSU on a knife's edge.

Have you tried a monitor?

The old gpu is an r9 270. The psu is new so I'm hoping it wouldn't be that. I don't have a monitor to plug it into. The tv is a newer 4k one though. The psu should have plenty of power to get the job done.

I've cleared the cmos and have had no change

Try the other pcie slot. If that doesn't work it looks like the motherboard is faulty. It's quite possible the way it's behaving.

Next, breadboarding the system as in remove motherboard from case on a non conductive surface to rule out case electric shorts.

Before I go through the bother of finding a good replacement motherboard, could the cpu be hogging all the power? Or because everything is turning on you think it could be the board since it just seems that no gpu is working in the slot? I'd hate to get a new board and still have power issues, cuz this board was supposed to be one of the best for my components

The cpu is power hungry but 1000w is recommended if doing extreme overclocking or running dual cards. The cpu at default settings + res of the system with one card wont use no more than 750w i'd imagine. You do have the 8pin 12v cpu power plugged in?

Did you go through this list i posted earlier? http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems

I'm only suggesting it 'could be' faulty, breadboarding the system and possibly removing the cpu and check for bent pins while it's out.

Have you tried another pcie slot or no?

Yes I have the 8 pin plugged in. I have not gone completely through that list you posted. I have tried both gpu's in different slots. The cpu pins are not bent I checked.

correction: I did gpu through the list you posted earlier

Fan is for sure connected to the right one. So it sounds like the motherboard could be the issue right?

No nothing about a ryzen post

I couldn't afford to do the newer tech build. Do you have any suggestions on a different board?
