I recently bought a used RX 580 to upgrade my prebuilt acer system. It is working but it is very buggy. Everytime I boot my computer I don't get a signal to my monitor until I'm in windows, meaning i also can't get a signal in BIOS.
I have also noticed that sometimes when I start the computer, when I eventually get a signal the screen is just black(but monitor says it is getting a signal), I usually just have to restart and it works again. And almost everytime i restart after the screen is black i get weird artifacts on the screen.
I am connected with a displayport cable.

System specs:
Core i5 6400
Acer mobo
8 gb DDR4
ASUS RX 580 4gb dual
1tb HDD
128gb boot ssd
240gb ssd

Solution
BIOS: Try using the motherboard's built in graphics port. It could be a BIOS setting where integrated is set to primary. Otherwise remove the GPU then update to the latest BIOS. No matter what, update to the latest BIOS when you regain access to it. Don't try to update the BIOS within Windows if the system is glitchy. It's probably best to perform the update with the GPU removed in either event.

Video Card: Download the latest drivers from AMD. Uninstall your GPU drivers in "Programs and Features" or "Apps & Features". Install the latest drivers your downloaded. Hopefully, it is just a driver glitch. If it works stress test the GPU. Unigine Valley is a good test, Superposition is better but it isn't free to run a looped stress test...

Yea, I've already tried both DVI and HDMI multiple times, neither of them fixes the issue.

You can also try making a Linux live USB (I'd suggest Ubuntu). Then boot off it to see if you experience the same issues with artifacts. If you do, there is a hardware issue. If not, run a stress test of the GPU to see if artifacts occur .

Try a different monitor, if you have one. If the artifacts issue still exists. Even after reinstalling drivers, trying Ubuntu and trying another monitor. It's safe to say the GPU is faulty. Some people downclock the GPU to clear this. Just note this is just a temporary kludge. If this was an eBay purchase still within eBay's/Paypal's grace periods. File a claim.

Thanks for the fast answer. Is there a way to find a BIOS update for my mobo since it is from a prebuilt system?

Just google the make and model of your PC and support or bios or drivers. Then open your computer manufacturers support page. Just make sure it is your manufacturers support page not one of the shifty "drivers" sites.

For example "Dell Dimension 9100 bios". The first Google result I get is Dell's Driver and Downloads page for that particular computer. Then I can sift through available downloads for the latest BIOS. Be sure the support page is for your model. You don't want to try installing the BIOS for another model.

Depending on the format of the download. You may need to extract files from a compacted archive (I use 7-Zip). Then place those extracted files in the root directory of your Thumb Drive. The Thumb Drive willl usually need to be formatted in FAT (FAT32) not exFAT or anything else. If they extract into a folder. Put the folder contents in the Flash drive not the folder.

Just a word of warning. Although exceedingly rare. A failed BIOS flash can lead to a non-functional computer. Don't interrupt a flash in progress.

After almost two hours of trying I wasn't able to update the BIOS, but i am almost certain that it is a hardware issue so I think I am going to get it replaced.
