Ok so Im building a gaming pc and decided to purchase the Avp defender 400 k2 case. The issue I'm having is with the 2 pin molex connectors one coming from the power button and the other from the fan (both in the case), there aren't any sockets for either of them on the Asus Z87-K mother board. Just a bit confused as to what is meant be done with them and whether they're necessary for the computer to run properly.

Well, if you want to be able to use the power button for... well... turning off/on the power, then you should find where it needs to plug in. Have you looked in the MB's owner's manual for where the power switch goes to?

You'd want the fan to be running so it can keep your system cool. I have plugs on my motherboard for chassis fans, but I only use two of them (for variable control). The rest I plug into my power supply using a converter because I want them on continually. It depends on what you want.

Ive already connected the necessary connections for the power button (i.e. pwr sw, speaker, hdd led and reset), theres just an extra molex connector wiring form the where the power button is and I cant seem to find a fit for it, pretty much the same issue Im having with the case fan (which also has a molex connector wiring to the fan).

Also just noticed as well that there dosnt seem to be any PWR_LED wires, will this be ab issue?

I wouldn't worry about it, then. Especially if the button and fan are working fine. I imagine that the extra connectors is for compatibility with different motherboards/power supplies. Mine came with a whole bunch of adapters for the pins and I needed to use two to convert from molex. Curious that yours had the different connectors already wired in.

I'd say that if your fan runs and the power button works, then don't worry. I stuffed my extra wires carefully in a corner with ties so they wouldn't tie up in a fan. :)

Unlike the power button, the fan itself isnt actually connected to anything since I cant find the appropriate connections, which then leads me to worry about the lack of an adequate airflow since thats the only fan I have so far thats attached to the case. Since I obviously cant connect the case with the mobo, the only other connection I can think of would be from the psu, but me being the amateur I am cant seem to find a fitting connection.

Reading what Im typing now has actually made me realise how unclear I was in the questions so my apologies for that :)

Ah, valid concern. What's your PSU's make and model? I had to use a molex converter to have a four-pin from the PSU run the fan. Perfectly fine and if you bought your PSU new, then the converter should be included. Something like this: http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/1080/stockfanconnectors.jpg

PSU is Corsair CX750 Builder Series CX 750W ATX/EPS 80 PLUS Bronze PS, and Im sure no converter wires/connectors came with it.

Well shoot, looks like you'll need to get a converter to get that fan going since you can't plug it into the MB. But it's worth it, since heat is a huge killer of computer parts. If you go down to any local computer store, I'm sure they'd have one on hand you could buy from them. :) Hope I helped with at least the button connector. 😛

Ah ok thanks for the advice, what is the converter that I need?

Well.... I believe you should have a few extra four pin's coming from your PSU that you're not using. I had quite a few that I wasn't using.... but that part is up to you to determine. You should figure out which connector is open and you are going to use from the PSU for the fan and there you go. If in doubt take a picture of the open connection with yer phone and you should be able to go off of that at the store. :) At least, that's what I'd do.

Happy holidays!
