No POST with H81 mobo and 4590

The system is:

MSI H81M-E34, Intel H81, S 1150, DD
Intel Core i5 4590, S 1150, Haswell
600W Silverstone Strider Essential
Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600) Dual Channel Desktop

Ordered the memory by accident thinking it was 2x4GB but meh.

Anyway I did the standard thing to check everything works where you just put it on the motherboard box and check the essential components. I have the CPU 4 pin plugged in, the 24pin motherboard connector in and when I try to start the system up it just says 'No HDMI Signal' on the monitor. Here's a video that shows what I mean.

I've tried reseating the CPU, trying the RAM in both slots, and taking the RAM out completely. Also tried clearing the CMOS but when I did that it didn't power the system up so I'm not sure if I've done it right as on my other motherboard it also powers the system on. I don't really understand why it wont work. Can't be a static shock as I took all the necessary precautions.

I'm pretty sure all these components should be compatible with eachother, but I haven't built a system since the Ivy Bridge days.

Anyone got any ideas whats happening?

Thanks.

Barring aside that you're just using the iGPU and that your HDMI cable is connected properly, is there a chance on your monitor that you have to change it to the right output? Meaning, if you have 3 HDMI ports, you might be on the wrong one?

Do you have any graphics cards available to you that you could test out and see if you could it boot up and see the system? If you could do that, maybe you could find out if somehow integrated graphics is disabled in the BIOS/EFI as a last resort...

I'm pretty sure I had the monitor and everything set up right, but it can't hurt to check again I suppose. I was too afraid to put a card in the system incase it caused damage to working components.

I sadly don't have access to an original Haswell chip, is the only way of updating it to do the way you describe?

I wouldn't worry about damaging the graphic cards if the board is new, unless you have a real reason to believe it will start frying items... I would give that a try before anything else and see if it works. If not, then something very odd is happening concerning the mobo.

As for flashing the bios, this mobo has M-Flash. I believe you can backup and upgrade the BIOS from a USB drive. I would read more about it from the manual and the website before trying anything, just in case.

Newer Asus motherboards can flash without a compatible CPU but I think MSI requires you to get into BIOS to use M-Flash.

Does your monitor support 1280x1024? Have you tried VGA (if available)? You didn't list your monitor but connecting to a TV via HDMI seems to be a bad combination for a lot of people.
