No RAM, but yet there is RAM

I have a Soyo motherboard (actually 2, one is in this one). It wouldn't turn on for anything, finally it just decided to turn on (the system worked before). Then it gave one long beep, which Soyo's site says is a memory error. I reseated the RAM, no luck. I put RAM in from another computer (albeit I dunno if it works or not), no luck. Any advice? I am about to make the 2nd system bootable and try it.

So what you are saying is...

1) The system will not post.

2) It beeps onces when you turn it on.

3) You tested the RAM on another machine and it did not work.

4) You reseated the RAM but still will not post.

5) The machine used to post until a short while ago.

The memory module is most likely dead. That is the simplest answer I can give you.

I will suggest that you test the RAM in the other machine on this motherboard just so you can rule out the motherboard.

Actually, I hadn't done step 3 yet. I got another machine and tried various memory configurations in the new machine. They all worked fine. Went back to the old one and tried them. All failed. I noticed that the vid card was slightly out, so I pressed down on all the cards. computer turned on just fine. It is amazing that a video card out can cause a no-memory beep code.

Could have been beeping because there was an error with the nothrbridge. Memory and AGP buses run into it and thus the one beep error. I am happy you fixed it.
