when I play pc games at 60fps on my pc i see no screen tearing

I would understand if i was playing at 144fps then it may not be noticeable but not at 60fps

is there some stealth vsync going on?

i dont want vsync for multiplayer fps games for obvious reasons.

i have a gtx 970 nvidia

If a game is running at 60FPS it already matches the refresh rate of the average monitor.

There is no need for V-sync unless your frame rate is above or below the refresh rate of your monitor.
V-sync only works if the GPU and monitor are not in sync.
In most situation a game running at 60 FPS will not stay locked at 60. It varies a bit depending on how complex the scene is.
Just walking = 60 FPS. Explosions, Shooting, Water, 10 other gamers on screen = 58 FPS, for example.

my monitor is 144hz and Halo Online is locked to 60fps and i see no difference between vsync on and off.
