Question No signal, but sporadic connection

Recently attained an Acer SB230 to use with my Dell XPS laptop. When first plugged in the connection worked for 15 minutes without problem before black screening and displaying "No signal." I tested it with a video game console using the same HDMI and it worked. I updated the display drivers and monitor drivers, even installing the official Acer monitor driver, nothing worked. I connected the laptop to a television and it also did not give a signal, I have been able to use HDMI without much problem over the last year, although connectivity has always been a minor issue. I would think it is a driver issue but every so often the display will spring to life for a matter of moments before disconnecting again. My suspicion is that the HDMI port is bad as I have had previous problems with this laptop and doubt its build quality. I have been using older HDMIs so I also suspect there could be incompatibilities between my laptop and the pre 2.0 HDMIs I have been testing with. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Update: The device still stays black but connects for a few seconds every once in a while. I tested it with a different laptop and it worked fine. My plan now is to use a USB-C to HDMI adapter because my suspicion is that the HDMI port is bad, I would try and replace it but it is attached directly to the motherboard. I would contact Dell but my last experience with them was awful, this is my second hardware problem with this laptop and I have heard from others that Dell quality control is awful, rather unfortunate 🙁

Any suggestions would still be appreciated. :)
