As the title states, my specs were i5 9400f 16gb ram, rx6800xt, seasonic 650watt focus+. I upgraded the cpu to an i7 8700, however im facing a strange issue, when i turn on the pc and plug a cable into the gpu I dont get any signal, even if i plug the hdmi cable into the motherboard but restarting and removing all the cables plugged to gpu (except power cables) and plugging an hdmi cable into the motherboard will output a signal. I've tried a different psu, and tried the gpu on a different pc and it worked fine, also tried another gpu on my pc which didnt work either. And yes i tried removing the cmos for 5 minutes... i tried uninstalling the display drivers from the device manager with no luck. What should I do?

what is the motherboard?
Msi b360m pro vdh. I've tried putting the i5 back and everything worked fine, was able to get a signal from the gpu. However, the moment i put the i7 back, the gpu doesnt output anything anymore only the igpu work. And yes i updated bios and reset it multiple times.

Only thing that comes to mind is that the A3/A6 version of your BIOS has done something wonky with on-board graphics. I know you said that you reset your BIOS, but did you ever try reverting back to the A0 version (all that is required by your I7-8700)?

Edit: Also, do you have all 8 pins for the CPU connector connected?

I've tried reverting back to the A1 version, I'll try to download the A0 from some website since it isnt available on their website and yes all 8 pin are connected.

Well, I wouldn't do that. If A0 is no longer available for download, then it's almost certain to not be a BIOS issue, otherwise others would have screamed at MSI about the issue.

Any other PCI-E cards installed?
Did you get the I7-8700 new or used?

Too late, I've installed the A0 version and nothing changed. Nothing is installed in the pcie slots, theres an nvme tho, not sure if its considered a pcie. The i7 is used, i got it for free from a friend because he upgraded, sadly he doesnt have his motherboard anymore, to use it for testing purposes. (he sold it)

Theres something i didn't mention, which is: i have dropped the cpu from 1 meter (3ft) while holding it and cleaning it from thermal paste. Inspecting it visually theres no damage, dents, whatsoever. Currently i can install intels drivers and while stress testing it i dont see anything abnormal.

Is it possible that the PCIE controller is dead after the drop? I saw this post facing a similar issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/ti6vs8/can_pcie_controller_on_the_cpu_go_bad/

Regardless, I ended up grabbing an i5 12400f and msi b760m-a along with a xigmatek air killer s. The difference is night and day honestly... but I still have the old rig which I'll be selling, but before selling it I just wanna make sure that the pcie controller is dead...
