No sound after upgrading my video card

Help please.

I have upgraded my gtx 460 se video card to a gtx 680 oc and now im not getting any sound, if i go under control panel i'm showing Realtek high def audio, nvidia high def audio and nvidia virtual audio device (wave extensible) (WDM), they're all enabled.

Under sound>playback devices i'm showing my speakers icon but it's grayed out and it says "not plugged in" on the hand i'm showing Realtek Digital Audio Output and Realtek Digital Audio Output(Optical) they're both enabled.
If i play some music the green bars are moving up and down on the Realtek Digital Audio Output playback device but no sound at all is coming out my speakers.
I've connected my speakers on my ipod and they are fully functional.

I did some research and here what i've tried so far:

1) Uninstalled/re installed my graphics card drivers
2) Uninstalled/re-installed my on board sound drivers
3) Enabled/disabled the onboard audio option under my BIOS settings (HD Audio Controller)
4) Restarted Windows Audio service


My specs:

MSI 870S-G46
Processor AMD Phenom II X6 1090T
8 Gb Ram (kingston 1333 mhz)
Gtx 680 oc 4gb
Windows 8.1 Pro

Uhmm did you RIGHT CLICK Realtek high def audio and select DEFAULT DEVICE ? If you don't it may have 'defaulted' with the HDMI connection (nvidia high def audio) though nothing is connected.

You may want to reseat your speakers, or try a set of headphones while you have the REALTEK control panel up and make sure it detects plugging it into the different ports.

I already tried what you suggested me but still no sound. when i plug my speakers or headphones nothing happens on the control panel.

I just bought a usb sound adapter and now my sound is working as usual, wish i could have solved the issue without buying a new adapter, thanks for your help though.

Here is the easiest solution I found on this.

I upgraded my Nvidia 660ti to a 960 and lost sound.

I tried all of the troubleshooting in BIOS and Windows

End result the only way I got my sound back was I put in a new ASUS PCI sound card... now I have sound back.

I had an ASUS logic board as well.
