I have a similar problem with my Dell Optiplex with WinXP Pro SP2 and
Turtle Beach Santa cruz sound card. I think the problems started after
SP2, but I can't be sure.
Often, I'll get very low volume & static from my left speaker which
runs through a receiver/amplifer. All other rec inputs work OK with
this speaker.
I found a strange way to correct it (temporary) by opening sounds in
control panel & playing a fairly loud file like chord. Sometimes this
will force the "connection", and the sound will be OK for minutes to
hours.
Sometimes, the computer will just reboot, & MS crash analysis will
call it a driver or RAM problem. I have the latest drivers for Turtle
Beach, and I'm about to rip the card out & return to the MB sound chip
(yes, it's turned off in BIOS).
Yes, I've done all the plug/cable twisting & swapping with no avail.
Thanks for listening.
