No way to get wifi (from usb) work on my new pc build

Hi,

I just completed my new pc build and I have a wifi dongle I need to use to connect my pc. I can't get it to work. What I've tried so far:

- installing drivers from the provided CD
- installing drivers via windows update (tethering with my phone for internet connection)
- changing wifi dongle: yes, same problem with every one
- purging drivers and reinstalling, in all the combinations i could think of

If I go to the network connections in the control panel, it says that wifi is "Disabled", but clicking enable produces no result, it stays disabled..

I tried the dongles on two different machines and they had no problems at all, I didn't even have to install any driver it was just plug and play.

I have no idea on how to proceed, it looks a lot like a problem with my motherboard maybe?
Some specs:
- windows 8.1
- MSI gaming 5 mobo

Going to "Device Manager" correctly displays the devices but running a diagnostic says that "There may be a problem with the device driver". That's strange since on other windows 8.1 machines it was just plug and play, easy.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated..

Have you installed all the drivers for the motherboard - there may be USB drivers

Yes, every mobo driver is up to date. Usb ports work fine with any other device (I'm thethering from usb for example, usb mouse and keyboard, usb storages, usb bluetooth etc.)
