Question Noisy fan but doesn't seem to be a heat issue?

I've been having some issues with my computer fan. I cleaned all the fans but that didn't seem to help. It's an older part (krpw-ss500w) but not sure why it's running so loud recently. There doesn't seem to be a heat issue... could it just be getting louder because it's old or somesuch?

Could be the bearing is dried out. Especially if it's old and has been getting hot.
Try a replacement.

Bought a replacement and gave it a try, seems to be equal amount of noise. The quality of the noise may be slightly different with the two PSUs but total amount is about the same. I'll probably return the new one since it doesn't seem to make any difference (and it's slightly less energy efficient than old one).

Then you need to investigate to find exactly where the noise is coming from.
Is this the CPU cooler fan?

I thought the onboard PSU fan, listening it's possible it's actually the CPU fan. The CPU and CPU fan are only a month old so it's not age for those definitely.

It's OK to stop the PSU fan for a few seconds. That might help you make a diagnosis.

I'm not sure how to stop the PSU fan while keeping power running to the other fans to check?

OK. Then see if you can work out a way to isolate where the noise is coming from or just replace fans till you get rid of the noise.
