Ok, Im not an engineer, (I don't even play one on TV) but it seems to me if you are trapping sound with baffles, you will also be trapping heat with baffles. Heat like sound can be absorbed by materials.

Well i usually dont even look at your posts, and simply ignore you...

You're always good for a giggle with these ignore claims, Jellymon...

Then again, I think you were one of the people to suggest an Asus Motherboard, which has now cost me allot of money.

Your thinking is gufflawed. I've posted to numerous C2D and C2Q threads that I've not bought yet because I'm waiting for the dust to settle on C2 mobos. I'm getting closer but still patiently await. I'm looking forward to reviews of the new DFI C2 mobo. I'm tempted by the high FSB people are getting on some 965 chipsets but would like to see a better supporting cast of abilities like some 975 boards have. Patient, that's me - because I have functional rigs already and although I could use more processing power, I hope to keep my next Intel rig for 4 or 5 years and thus am cautious. Unlike you, I detest the RMA process and anything else related to part failure or limited functionality.

Unfortunately I have built a system far beyond what 99% of the people around here have built

How did you determine this percentage? Did you take a poll? And how is a system with a history of breakdowns better than even my rock-solid old P4, let alone my game box?

their recommendations; though appreciated, have often backfired.

Well, you have to be careful who you listen to, and patience is a purchaser's virtue.

I also have had some really bad luck, and made some mistakes. But its part of the game. Beign that the Core2Duo was so NEW when I bought it (it was out less then 2 weeks) I had to make allot of decisions without other peoples experiances to point to.

Clearly, your overeager, gotta-have-it-now approach is 180 degrees away from mine. It's all about priorities I guess.

I have also done a MAJOR amount of modifications to wirers and other parts of the machine.

I don't know what this means. Does it mean that you routed your cables carefully?

I have spent money on parts I dont use, though I may be able to use in the future. As a new comer to Watercooling, I relied on the advice of FrozenCPU, and was burnt.

Yea, that's a tough break. I'm leery of buying just based on a retailer or etailer recommendation alone. There is so much water-cooling info on forums like Toms that it's just not hard to figure out what to get for a given price point. Then again, my approach is to go slow to go fast - set goals, do the research, check for other opinions and THEN buy.

As a side note, I havent been on this site as much as I use to be. I really like to help out people, but these forums are under moderated and the flame/attacks that happens here is excessive. Instead of showing people compassion and solutions for their mistakes and problems, people here ridicule and put you down.

I consider that to be a gross generalization. This is kind of a high dynamic range forum with many different behavior sets. But having been a Usenet regular since the beginning, nothing on Toms has ever managed to get me very worked up. I'm likely to be entertained and educated much of the time and I truly appreciate the in-house and forumz expertise. It's all about perspective and expectations. Fer Chrissakes, it's ONLY the Internet. With Al Gore as chief-co-inventor, how can you expect too much?

Clueless, pointing out my problems, without ever offering any sort of help or sympathy.

Maybe you don't see my replies as attempts at help, but that's your problem. Ever since you came on here whining about all of your problems, my message has been consistent: decide what you NEED and use that to guide your research. Be patient, look at a variety of resources and be patient some more.

Taking Clueless's history this is a comon behavior.

I doubt that you have the slightest idea of what my history is here. I'm on no Mission From God to go out and be the world's best Forumz helper, but I pay my dues here when I have something to offer and have received many, many 'thank-yous'. The fact that your feathers were ruffled by my replies is not something I'll take all the blame for. You have little sense of humor, dude and I like to laugh, so plug that into your harmonic logic. You mention sympathy above - you're in the wrong place for that kind of support.

Its really to bad that he doesnt have compassion for me and others who struggle through a build. Sometimes builds just dont work out perfectly. I am unable to control everything.

Compassion? If I shed a tear over your RMA-heavy past, would it make you feel better? I've given you solid advice in the past and you ignored it. I dissed on your PS and you were adamant that it was a great piece - but now you say you had to RMA it. Hello in there, Jellymon - you just don't listen.

I will be welcome to come back and help out even more if the forum if moderators stopped people from engaging in such angry and malicous responses.

Before you go dumping a bunch of "advice" on this forum, maybe it would help if you did the background work to learn what the good stuff is and what's the junk?

This place has the opportunity to be a friendly place that could help allot of people, and could be fun for us. Instead we loose some of the best people available (such as Wusy) and as more of the people who care leave Thoose left will be the mean insulting people.

You think Wusy left because his feelings were hurt? Maybe you do have a tiny sense of humor after all. What, you weren't kidding? Wow.

Lastly, Clue69Less will last less then 3 days on the forumz of OC without beign banned.

Too bad you didn't put some money on that since I've been a member for many months...

I hope you will get better Clueless, and stop feeling like you have to bully people. I will pray for you to get over this defect in character and that you may grow spiritually as an individual.

Right, dude, and I hope you learn how to pick out a good PS that has enough bling to fill your starry eyes cuz my money is on your new Ultra taking a dirt nap any day...

Amen sister! Too bad an all too high proportion of people on these forums just believe what others say blindly and if you reccomend a particular PSU or anything they'll buy it. Then there are the people who just go for pretty shiny things like the Zalmann 9500 LED. You can buy far better coolers for far less and so many people have been told this but still go for this overpriced yet still fairly decent cooler.

Sad....... some people seem to go for bling abnd shiny crap over reliability. That's not my way.

My name is Mike Parisi

so I wouldnt go around blaming me for pushing products unless I like them. And Because of my RMA and difficulty the only thing I strickly push is NewEgg. They rock, and I cant help but say it.

I would LOVE to work at NewEgg, but I dont. They are a GREAT company doing some really good things. They have a highly ethical behavior a business practices. I wish I could find more companies I could work at that I could feel good about the outcome of the job Im doing.

Anyways, Like I said, I dont have problems anywhere but on tomshardware; and I really dont need it.

BTW, what fans would you recommend rather then the SilenX. I just sent out a Email for 3 on my XMAS list, cause the top fans on my case (radiator) are now the loudest ones. SilenX fans are REALLY expensive, so If I could find a cheaper alternative, or if you have some knowledge I dont about them then please share.

Nexus fans defacate all over SilenX fans.......... everyone knows that. Everyone except for you it seems

Your love of Newegg is comical. They are simply trying to make money. By them not having to deal with your RMA and do paperwork and such they saved money. I used to work for a large computer company and there were just certain things that we never even bothered to RMA because the time and effort spent on them outweighed the money we were going to spend on getting it RMA'ed

Quality costs. While you may frequently pay more for things than they are worth, I have yet run into the situation where I paid little and got far more than I desired.

You are sooo right. Good Companies are ones that have been stable and realize that good business for them comes from good business for their customers. In the end if you do a detailed analysis, it is usually more profitable to run a business that keeps its customers happy and satisfied than it does to count on the volume of people to make up for the guys you send away forever.

Truely, you guys are assholes... I just dont wake up in the morning to get onto the internet and spend hours making snide remarks and bullshit responses. I feel like im in high school again. Most of you probably just got out of school.

See Ya...

You seem to be very sensitive. you can't take criticism of your purchases at all.

I simply pointed out the cold and hard truth about Newegg and you call me an ahole???? What about the fact that Newegg was fleecing people buying C2D processors when they first came out just because they could? This is hardly ethical. In fact it's highway robbery and exploitation.

I pointed out that Nexus fans are better than SilenX and you probably got broody about that as well

yep... these statements put you up for saint hood... EVERYONE knows Clueless is an Ass, they've known that for awhile...

Your NEXUS fans, or the ones I saw, are 22db and under 50 CFM. How can you claim thoose are of quality?

I need airflow and low DB values. I got a SilenX for free, and it is silent. And it almost blows more hot air then clueless... ALMOST! If their is a specific brand I should look at, it would help... but from my quick look they dont look good.

Meh. What you don't understand is that SilenX's specs are totally undocumented in that they haven't told you how they've measured them...... then there's the fact that they're quiet with their rubber mounting kit and not mounted directly to a case as most people are going to mount them. Go to www.silentpcreview.com and ask them if they prefer Nexus fans to SilenX fans

You are just one of these people who looks at specs and doesn't look any further. Your comments regarding those Nexus fans which are some of the best out there confirm that......

Why don't you just quiet down and listen to what people have to say for once?

First I dont criticise anyone for their decisions... I try to make their equipment work, without saying it sucks, and without forcing them to go out and spend money on it.

Second, NewEgg isnt pulling the wool over my eyes. I am a Management Information Systems Graduate from RIT. Its a Business degree, so I know more about TQM, Quality and Customer Service then I would ever want to know.

As far as a C2D processor, I paid 1030 for my X6800. I knew the price would come down, but I wanted it NOW... I am a bit impatient.

Third, point me to a 120mm x 25mm Nexus Fan that is high flow (60+ CFM) and silent (under 20db). Then I would be impressed. Otherwords, I am stuck spending WAY too much for FANS. Doh...

But dont worry, I asked this question on a more respectable forum, or at least one I wont get shit on.

Also, My (edit) SilenX fan is hard mounted, without the rubber. And it is silent...

Erm.............. it seems you've got one.

Anyone want to explain to me why it is bad to mount your fans with the silicone shock mounts instead of hard mounting them to the case? I can see no practical reason to bolt a fan to a metal chasis if you want to keep the rig silent.

Ive just seen the comments about most people not mounting them with the silicone in other places and am just curious as to why.

P.S.

Not knocking your education or anything jelly but umm in my professional carreer, I have found the whole TQM thing to be little more than a New Age touchy feely face for good old fashioned common sense...and frequently TQM doesnt account for real life Human behaviour. Just my opinion though.

I should be clearer. The Nexus Fan does put out a Noise. All fans do, but this fan is easily quiter then the HardDrives, CD Roms, etc. And I have all of thoose on equipment to help silence them.

The Nexus Fan Rumbles, where most fans push a higher pich sound.

It is ALMOST silent... but like I said, they are VERY expensive, and I would love to have a cheaper solution, even if it means loosing some CFM.

Im not interested in 22db fans. I think I have 22db fans in my case now, and they drive me nutz.

Mike

Erm.............. it seems you've got one.

Yep, got one for free, because of a faulty fan that Frozen CPU sold me... They gave me one as a replacement. It was really nice gift.

It may not be "independantly" confirmed, but it does perform VERY good. In fact, it seems almost impossible.

Mike

There's nothing wrong with it.

It's just that it's somewhat misleading to give the specs of your fan when it's mounted on silicone. The people then compare it to a fan that is hard mounted and think it's quieter. Which in a sense it is and it isn't. Then there are people who are unable to use the silicone mounts and end up buying a noisier fan. Plus there's a lot of conjecture as to whether SilenX are as quiet as they're advertised as being......

18 DB seems crazy low... But it could pull it off cause it is low freqs, and its harder to measure them...

Physics:
Low sound waves (Hz and not Khz), travel through things and are harder to pick up with allot of mics. However I have personal experiance with this thing, and I dont rubber mount it, though I dont have a problem doing so, except that I have grills on the fan.

It is possible to TUNE a fan, just like an instrument, and I think it is possible to come up with solid designs that have low db rates and high CFM.

Opinion:
The SilenX is VERY quite... I have to bend down to my machine to hear it... I have the 72cfm version which is rated at 18db. They have a fan that has lower CFM and that hits 14db... but that is almost inaudible even at the closest range.

Then again, like I said, the Nexus Fans are REALLY low CFM, and are Rather loud. I cant beleive people say they are the "best". They are also REALLY UGLY! But I havent sat with two next to me, to compair directly.

Dude, ALL sound travels through things. Don't lecture on physics - your time would be better spent learning to read.

It is possible to TUNE a fan, just like an instrument, and I think it is possible to come up with solid designs that have low db rates and high CFM.

So SilenX sends you fans with tuning pegs?

If you took the time to READ, you'd know that they sell 11dB fans too.

Then again, like I said, the Nexus Fans are REALLY low CFM, and are Rather loud. I cant beleive people say they are the "best". They are also REALLY UGLY!

Boys and girls, this is the reason Jelly doesn't like Nexus fans.

Mr. BlingJelly needs lights!

Im not going to respond any further. Go ahead and rip me appart. It wont hurt me, I will just pray for you all. And hope you find compassion in your lives.

Not going to respond any further??? Since that pile of blood-drenched BS, you've managed to reply eight, count'em EIGHT times! One directly to me and another slandering me. You spray this BS about praying for all of us then you say:

"Truely, you guys are assholes... "

If I was in prison, I might ask you to pray for our assholes but I'm not so I won't.

Really, Jelly, it's hard to give you any credibility points when you go back on your word like this. Don't you have a couple a dozen PC parts to RMA rather than calling names and whining about compassion on Toms? Last time I checked, calling someone a name like anasshole in general is not considered very compassionate. Perhaps you need to learn to follow your own advice?

First I dont criticise anyone for their decisions...
Sure you do - I decide to reply to your BS and you criticize and call names.

I try to make their equipment work, without saying it sucks, and without forcing them to go out and spend money on it.

RMA Kings such as yourself are not qualified to give such advice.

Second, NewEgg isnt pulling the wool over my eyes. I am a Management Information Systems Graduate from RIT. Its a Business degree, so I know more about TQM, Quality and Customer Service then I would ever want to know.

So where did you get all of your physics "knowledge" - off of a gum wrapper?

I am a bit impatient.

Understatement of the year.

But dont worry, I asked this question on a more respectable forum, or at least one I wont get **** on.

You keep threatening to leave, then you come right back with more name-calling and more bogus crap. Maybe you should start up Koom-Bye-YahForumz and play moderator where everyone else has to be polite but you get to call names and spray BS for which you are unaccountable? Sounds like your dream.

Also, My (edit) SilenX fan is hard mounted, without the rubber. And it is silent...

For someone lecturing on physics, you got a ton to learn about sound.
