Non-working Tyan MPX (S2466) mobo

I’m trying to get a Tyan MPX motherborad working. It is part of a
small 4-machine dual-AMD cluster. All of them worked great for several
years, but started to become unstable and randomly go blank. One of
them is now dead. No luck yet, but here’s some hints for other people
with problems.

In troubleshooting, I checked the one of the other boards and found
that you can boot with nothing but CPUs (i.e. no RAM) and get a POST
beep error. It is also possible to POST with just one CPU. So, if you
have bad RAM or one bad CPU, you can isolate errors to the motherboard
for most everything except the power supply.

In my case, swapping power supplies did not help. I even swapped BIOS
chips. So, in my case, I think the mobo really is bad.

Well you can upgrade to a 2468. If you have loaded hard drives with an
O/S they will run and boot on the 2468. It's close to being the same
but is a lot more flexible with RAM options. My 2466 died like yours.
It ran great 24 x 7 and then suddenly would not.

I move the drives and CPU over with new ram and booted up fine. These
days I don't try to fix motherboards. The time and eneergy is less
than a new board.

Visually inspect all the electrolytic capacitors for signs of bulging or
leaking.
