Noob question about Asus P4P800 Deluxe

I just build my first PC today, im currently using it, but i dont know where in the Bios is that I go to overclock 😵, could anyone tell me?, also, how do i update the Bios?.

Asus just get a tool for updating bios,and i think u get it in your drivers` CD.Want to OC?Pray for mobo first,then do every thing u want.Donnt worry about the crash down,for Asus mobo also have a function to fix it.

To get to the BIOS you need to press and release the "Delete" key when the computer starts up. This will take you to a menu screen where you use the arrow keys to move around and select different features of the motherboard you wish to change. Most of the ones you'll be interested in will be under the "Advanced" heading. Once you're in the Advanced portion you can highlight the various features in the column and you'll usually see a description on the right side of the screen. When you see something you want to fool with, hit "Enter" and that will probably open up a sub-menu for you to do the same thing with. Once you actually get to the feature you wish to modify, hit "Enter" again and then you use the "+" and "-" keys to change the settings. When you're finished, hit "F10" to save and exit. If, along the way, you make a mistake and can't remember what the default setting was, just exit the program without saving, reboot and start over. Look at your manual that came with the motherboard and you can get an explanation of most of the features. There is also a good explanation on how to update the BIOS. With the ASUS motherboard there are 3 different ways to do it, although when you download BIOS updates from their site they sometimes tell you NOT to use certain methods. One BIGGIE that you must keep in mind. Keep a journal or notebook of your BIOS settings that you change. Once you flash the BIOS everything is reset to the Default and you need to go in and change everything back. It's hard to do that from memory.

I have a P4P800 Deluxe also, the board has bios 1005.001 so I tried to update to 1009. The ASUS instructions are to use the AFUDOS.EXE utility to perform the update, but it won't work. Have you tried the other utilities to update this board/bios?

I'm using 1010 now and have used all three of the options to update the BIOS. I think the easiest and most reliable is the EZflash. All you do is download the latest BIOS, copy it to a floppy and rename the file to P4P800.ROM. Then, reboot the computer and when it starts to boot hit <Alt> + <F2> and the system will start the BIOS flashing process and reboot the machine. Just make sure you go back into BIOS after the flashing and change any settings you had previously altered.

Hmmm, I'll try that. I wonder why AFUSDOS utility just gave me an error message? I tried follow the instructions, but the first instruction was to copy the old bios, which is where I got the message "unable to read bios" or something like that. Of course the instructions were not that explicit. Instructions didn't say anything about renameing the new bios file to P4P800.rom DOH! It's been awhile since I last updated a bios, but I didn't think I had completely lost my touch ;-)

Maybe u have not closed the virus protect option in the bios.Remember always be careful to do everything.

Afudos does not require you to change the file name (at least I don't think it does). Only EZFlash does. With Afudos you have to:

1. Make a bootable floppy.
2. Add the afudos.exe file to the disk.
3. Add the latest BIOS update to the disk.
4. Reboot the PC to the floppy drive.
5. At the DOS prompt type make sure it's pointing to A:\
6. Type: afudos /i<filename> (where filename is the name of the latest BIOS you copied to the disk and make sure you type the lower case i that I have before the filename.)
7. Hit the enter key ahd it should update the BIOS.

As you can see the EZflash system I told you about in my last post is much easier. I guess that's why they call it EZflash, heh?

Yeah, EZflash worked very nicely, I should have RTFM a little closer the first or second time around, I would have seen it ;-). Never could get AFUDOS to work, no matter...
All works great now, except mic with onboard sound, but my headset may be bad, rugrats you know! I do like this board, especially the SATA drive setup, very fast,
