Not getting expected fps

Hello, I recently upgraded my graphics card to the gtx 1070, while my CPU is still only an AMD FX 6350. I've been getting below 60 fps on games like borderlands and Deus Ex Mankind Divided along with some others, at about medium settings. Just wondering if this is to be expected

Yes your cpu is surely holding back that 1070 a good bit. That is not a very strong gaming cpu. Really, none of the FX cpus are anymore. Have you checked benchmarks in some of those games to see how a 1070 is supposed to perform?

Check your CPU/RAM usage during gaming with monitoring software like Afterburner as your CPU is probably to blame.

It's your cpu bottlenecking your graphics card. Get a better processor like Intel i5-6600k or i7-6700k. You'll also need a different motherboard due to different socket.

Is there a big difference between the two processors you mentioned? Which one would you recommend?

Assuming you don't want to overclock, you should go for the i7-6700 non-k. The "k" versions don't come with cooler, so there's a bit more you are going to spend. Get the 6700 because it has 8 threads, and it will last you way longer than the i5, simply because DX12 is starting to ask for more cores/threads. I recommend a Gigabyte GA-B150M-D3H DDR4. You also need DDR4 RAM. With these settings, you are going to play any game maxed out at 1080p or even 1440p.

I agree. My 1070 utilises all eight logical cores of the i7 6700k with new games now, so don't believe all this stuff about games not needing multiple threads. The more the better. I have the Afterburner usage stats to prove it.

The one advantage of the k version is you can OC it when it starts to get a bit slow in future, to squeeze that extra bit of mileage out of it, but yeah you'll have to buy a cooler etc then too. An i7 6700 non-k will be good for quite a while. Same goes for the i5 6600k. All depends what you want to spend.
