I have a Sony CRX195A1 40x 12x 48x. The burning program that it came with is called "B's Burner" and works fine. however it takes about 4 minutes to burn a full data CD. This is about how fast as my freinds 24x burns. I tried using nero, but apperently my burner is not supported by it. Can the software effect the burning speed that much? thanks.

Some burners scan the disk and will only burn as fast as the media will allow. Also some burners will slow down if errors are found. Of course no burner burns at 40x the whole way so the improvement of 40x over 24x is small. See http://www.cdrinfo.com for more info.

Roxio is slower but I believe the timer counts lead-in time where Nero does not so that makes Roxio look much worse than it is.

if your computer doesnt send the data fast enough the buffer will run out and the drive will have to stop writing over and over again, this will make it take longer.
