Custom PC restarting on its own
Specs:
I5 2500k
Asus pz68v le MB
R9 390 xfx GPU
Gskill Ares 8gb ramx2 (16 GB total)
1tb HDD (not sure what brand but don't think this is the problem anyway)
Windows 7 home premium
750 corsair CX( {== hoping this is the problem)

My pc restarts on it own. It started about a week ago. The build was running fine for about a month and I've had the PSU for years before that but on a less power hungry build.

I've replaced ram and used and older GPU and it still restarts.

I'm hoping it's just the PSU. My new one arrives tommorow. 850w 80+ gold certified.

There have been a few storms recently but I use a surge protector. Do you think my newer build simply wore my PSU out (it was on sale and I've had it about two years) or could the storms have messed it up even through the surge protector?

I have a 212 evo on the CPU and the temps in my rig rarely go above 40 to 49 C. They sit at 30c idle. It just restarts with no bsod.

Are cx's just too low quality for my power requirements?

My GPU calls for 750w minimum but it ran everything fine for about a month.

I can run it for an hour or so and even game at excellent fps. I've used my old GPU and it still restarts.

This is the third pc I've built and the first time I've had a random restart problem.

Really? When I bought it the guy at best buy said he had one with no problems. I don't remember the price but I do remember it being cheaper then the others. I heard cx's were ok but not great. The new PSU gets here tommorow I'll update with results.

At this point if it runs for more than an hour I'll see an improvement : /

They are not fire starting garbage, but they are not good either. They use low quality caps and when they degrade they will fail under load and cause the system to either shutdown or restart(depending on the power options in the bios). Seen many threads of people with similar problems. I used a few of them after they first released and all of them ended up having shutdown issues and were replaced.

Not only has it not shut down but my pc seems to be more responsive since i've added the new PSU. everything is running like it should and i'm not even getting frame stutters like i was when playing games with the old one anymore.

My guess is the cx just was not giving my GPU to stable power that it needed to run correctly.

So I jumped the gun on saying it was fixed. It ran about half a day and started doing it again. Ive swapped out all my ram. Reseated my CPU cooler. And I've checked for any malware that could be on my system with avg and malware bytes. I've also updated my GPU drivers after sweeping them.

Could it be my motherboard or GPU at this point. I can at RMA my GPU for about 80% of what it cost me according to Amazon.

I'm very frustrated to say the least.

After trying EVERYTHING and I do mean everything besides replacing my mobo or HDD. I disconnected the power switch to my case and started it with a screwdriver.... It's been running for 24 hours without an issue. Smh
