Hi there,

I've just received my new Fractal Designs Refine R6 PC case today that I hope to install a ASUS X570 TUF motherboard into.

The PC case comes with one USB header cable shown here: https://ibb.co/LZdNjTT

But the motherboard has two sockets labelled "USB 78" and "USB 910" shown here: https://ibb.co/zr2XGcc

I'm not sure which socket I should plug the cable into?

Am I right in saying that the USB 910 socket refers to the USB 3.0 ports on the front panel of my PC case? Should I plug in the sole USB header cable into the 910 socket?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Either one of those would be OK. They are BOTH USB2.0 ports.

The users manual -- https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/..._TUF_GAMING_X570-PLUS_WI-FI_UM_WEB_060319.pdf page 1-2 shows the diagram of the motherboard. The USB 3 header is along the front edge of the motherboard listed as #9.

Hey,

Thanks for the reply. If they are both USB 2.0 ports how will the two USB 3.0 ports in my front panel work?
I have two USB 2.0 ports and two USB 3.0 ports(four altogether) on my front panel near the power and reset button.
Is there a separate cable and port on the motherboard for USB 3.0 or something?

Cheers,

One cable has two ports. That is why the motherboard connectors are labeled USB 7 & 8 or 9 & 10. There are two ports per connector.
The motherboard has a separate port for USB 3
For the case -- again look at the users manual -- https://www.fractal-design.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/DEFINE-R6-Manual-10.15-MB.pdf page 6

It appears your case has a front port USB-C. The x570 TUF doesn't come with the proper header for the front port but you can buy the adapter for the U32G-1_12 20 pin header. I have the TUF too so it's nice that you can connect the front USB-C of the case.

So does that mean I can't use any of the USB ports on the front panel unless I buy that adapter? Or just the USB-C port?

That’s for a USB-C port on the front of your case if it has one.
My particular Fractal Design Define R6 actually does have a USB-C port but I don't really understand the benefits of having this kind of port? I don't own any devices that have USB-C.

I don't even understand why people use USB-C over USB 3.0? I've read it's supposed to be faster but I have yet to come across any device that avails of such a port. Probably newer devices use them?
