This is the usual way of doing business for Wal-Mart.

YAY its like "We sell last centrury laptop and we make no profit out of it....but hey its cheap"

Athlon 2700xp+ (oc: 3200xp+ with 200fsb)
Radeon 9800pro (oc: 410/360)
1024mb pc3200 (5-3-3-2)
Asus A7N8X-X

There is no way to do business with Wal-Mart and make money. Those people will nickel and dime you to death. You need to just tell them to "go pack sand" if they ever call you.

Abit IS7 - 2.8C @ 3.4ghz - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100
Sony DRU-510A - Yellowtail Merlot

I imagine when they say under $600 they mean $599.99. Also whats the point, you get an outdated laptop, or if you spent about $200 more (maybe 300) you could get a new laptop that would be better than that thing anyday.

"up to 128Mb" of RAM, + WinXP....
I would not be happy using that. They should save themselves some cash and sell them with 98SE or something.

Sapphire 9800Pro (VGA Silencer Rev3) @418/742

They should save around $100 and just do Lindows.

You can add RAM and hard drive to laptops right?

Yes, you can add or replace RAM with larger modules on most laptops, and you can replace hard drives with larger units.
