Previous Tom's article gave a link to a website showing the power usage and performance of 4X GTX 480. As stated previously, only a 12% increase in performance compared to 3X, and a massive power draw of 950+ watts. Insanity. Anyone willing to do that for that slight of a performance enhancement is punching the planet in the kidneys.

I can't wait till I can order a second eVGA GTX 480 FTW. Unfortunately it was one per customer and now they're sold out at the moment.

Personally I'll just be using two psu's for quad SLI once the eVGA SR2 starts shipping. That'll let me keep both PSU's closer to their sweet spot for efficiency rather than trying to load it all up on one psu. Probably something like Mobo/1GPU/everything else on psu1 and 3GPU on psu2.

[citation][nom]winterblade[/nom]Am I the only one that is getting links to 2006ish news instead the regular next or previous article??[/citation]
Same

i can see the advertisements already: "free fire extinguisher when you buy four Fermi cars"

thank Christ i just did my firefighting increments for electronics fires.

[citation][nom]coopchennick[/nom]In other news, Iran is negotiating with nVidia in hopes to acquire this nuclear reactor.[/citation]

It'll take a nuclear reactor to power it.

I wonder if they include the 110V to 220V receptale converter. I would have to take the A/C to plug the computer instead. the maximun output for a home 110V its 1800W, if nothing else its connected. If not at least the could include a "Caution Shock hazzard" sticker.

PS: for 4-way sli, it wouldn't require a fire extinguisher or a water cooler, just one HAF932 with max 2 HDs inside it and one H50, and OF COURSE, not leaving on the desert! lol! But maybe, for the enthisiasters who buy this kind of rig, better wait for the EVGA WC version! then you will be good to go, to the sky! lol... no need for 4-way sli, never, just for rich enthusiasters, but I don't blame them, if I could, I would build this rig with the finest hardware, remember You pay 500 dollar now, but you can sell in one year for haf the price! And build the NEW TOP HARDWARE PC OF THE EYAR! haha... For a guy who have lots of money, it shouldn't be a problem!

Maybe the volcano in Europe is just someone running a 4 way SLI of these GTX 480's. Hopefully that ends soon 🙁. *sigh* Nvidia has let us down by giving us a heater, but at least it's a good one!

did everyone just missed this:

expect the dual-gpu 470 to come out shortly. That is actually the one that will need it if you want to run with two of those (like quite a few are doing with two 295's )

[citation][nom]SAAIELLO[/nom]SILVERSTONE ST1500 1500W has 4 8 pin PCIE connectors and will run you $379.99[/citation]

With 1440W (120V x 15A x 80% )being the "safe" allowable limit for a 15 Amp, 120 Volt circuit, this would require a dedicated 20 Amp circuit just to power your rig! 120V x 20A x 80% = 1920 Watts

I don't think a Fermi SLI setup would be applicable here in the Philippines. It's really hot here as of late. Temperatures is hovering between 36 to 38 degrees celsius and my PowerColor HD4670 is already at 60 degrees celsius.

I can't even begin to imagine what a Fermi SLI setup would do to my PC.

Support != scales well. And as rebturtle mentioned, for a standard home power outlet you start popping breakers around 1600W, which 4 of these puppies would probably do. So unless you plan on unplugging your dryer's 220 V source and using that every time you game, you're SOL.

The next issue: who needs that much horsepower? No game on the market, or a game coming in a long time requires that much power even at maxed settings and uber-resolutions. And in the future, when a game *maybe* needs that much, there will already be newer and faster cards around to do it with anyways.

Jeese... is that all you people can say?

'Can it play Crysis?'
'Can Fermi cook my breakfast'

Once again it is nVidia pushing the envelope. Yes these cards are hot and consume a lot of power and are very expensive. They are also THE BEST GPU'S MONEY CAN BUY! If you can find one of course.
