I guess that review where they used tri sli against ATI tri crossfire & quad crossfire didn't sit to well with Nvidia. When the ATI cards were able to keep up just fine because they scaled better with crossfire. So hey if we add another card maybe just maybe we can beat those red bastages. :) Oh if I rememebr right the (quad) dual 5890's actually were faster than Nvidia tri SLI GF480 setup in most of the benches.

Hahahahah..... I am watching Back to the Future Part III right now!!!

In other news, new power plants open in every major city in order to support the newfound load on the system.

[citation][nom]lasaldude[/nom]it only comes out to about 1450 watts for 4 cards.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vY8uppkjwL0[/citation]

CPU, motherboard, RAM, fans, H2o pump, Blu Ray drive, how many other things are depending on that PSU for power?

If price/power wasn't an issue I'd get that setup. Currently at 1k PSU, and only have room for 3 minus 1 for sound. I want to see benchmarks with 2/3/4 way SLI with the 480's. I heard scaling with two has a 80%-90% effect which is pretty big and worth it for two of them, 3 or 4 questionable.

according to research a male person who has sweat produces some chemical stuff that attracts ladies...
question: how do i sweat when i spend most of my time infront of a computer?
ans: buy a gtx 480 and put them in a 4 way sli
results: you will be drooling in sweat and all the ladies will just want to munch you up...nvidia the way its meant to be HOOKed up!

This is Nvidia's sorry way to say they have the upper hand again after this ?: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/gtx-480-radeon-5870-crossfire-sli,10219.html

I bet that even a 1200w power supply will be on it's very extreme supplying power to a beast configuration like this (powered by a 6 core Intel Processor, it's really the minimum in this case lol)

I went to one of the best and cheapest enthusiast stores here in Portugal and they had a 5850 side by side with a GTX 470. The HD 5850 cost € 268, the GTX 470 cost... € 399... with the difference I can buy an HD 5770 to use in another computer!

Really Nvidia, stop the PR and get back to work, everybody has understood the sorry situation you're in by now.

Like 3 480s in SLA wasnt enough to bring down the power grid in the United States.... Hey, lets just put 4 of these power drains in our PC..

Are they freaking serious?

try the 4-way 480 SLI if you want to go MAD...by the tremendous noise when gaming, and the electricity bill followed by (the bill looks like that you've bought a new air-con or 2, but it produces HEAT instead)

How pointless... You will need a $350+ power supply and massive amounts of cooling. Everything else in the case would suffer from the heat. Overclocking would be impossible for the cards and difficult for anything else in the case. The heat from just 2 GTX 260s in my case caused me to have to drastically improve my cooling.

I think I would just go with 2 X 5970 and call it a day! Almost half the price and half the heat!

Wise Words indeed.

[citation][nom]soldier37[/nom]What a huge waste, I have the fastest system on the block with one 5970, quad core cpu at 4ghz and 8gb ram no one I know have something even close to mine yet who in their right mind would buy these other than complete idiots? I guess its like buying one of those gold plated iphones for 50 grand just to say you have one. Crazy world! Ooo look at me I spent $2000 on my video cards just so I ca get 100fps in Crysis on all ultra settings woo hoo, lol.[/citation]

Enthusiasts don't mind.

Well I'm impressed, nVidia literally took the phrase "Money to burn" to a whole new level [picture housefire/bushfire or go the whole hog with that nuclear blast/dream scene from Terminator 2] =P

Seriously; the only people a 4-way SLi setup of these cards would target are extreme enthusiasts [give me power and damn the expense =P] who would be not in the least bothered by having to shell out on a i7 980X and complimenting motherboard to properly drive such an insane setup.

OTOH I'd prefer it that ATi kept up with this 'multi-gpu in a box' bonanza and just released a driver of their own allowing them to do the same with some HD 5970s [octo crossfire? =P] but this would just open the door to lazy GPU R&D [1 card to be good enough for everyday tasks and make people buy 2 cards for decent gaming performance...]
